Blue Vista Outlook on Route 666

      June 3, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

The four-hour ride along Highway 191 follows the trail used in 1540 by Spanish explorer Francisco Vasquez de Coronado as he searched for the fabled “Seven Cities of Cibola.”

About Route 191. In 1926, Arizona Governor George W.P. Hunt was in the area to celebrate the opening of the Springerville-to-Clifton highway, which was called Route 666 back then.

Route 666, also known as "The Devil's Highway", the "Highway to Hell" or "Satan's Highway" is a lonely, deserted stretch of road meandering through almost 200 miles of rugged, sweeping desert wilderness, with a long history of accidents and apparitions.

The road is totally paved and spans through 4 states: Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona. It’s 321km (200 miles) long, and runs from the city of Monticello (Utah) to the city of Gallup (New Mexico) through Navajo Nation and Shiprock, and across the Colorado Border.

We met some compadres along the way.
