12/13 Darlington & Cove Mountain

After coffee in bed (thank you, Aimee) and a delicious hotel buffet, we hit the trail again. Thankful for beautiful weather, we continued through the Cumberland Valley farmland and through woods along Conodoguinet Creek. Then, up, up, up to Darlington Shelter. The morning songbirds kept us in good spirits. After a looong sleep, we had more ups and downs on Cove Mountain to Cove Shelter. The weather turned cold and rainy. After a hot ramen lunch, we set up tents and retired to read , stretch, nap. Tomorrow we will be in Duncannon, PA, for the first “zero” day of the trip.Read more

Day 18–19
Two weeks and still ticking
April 28 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C
Woke up in Cove Mountain shelter brisk morning in the middle of the clouds. Hard to believe that I slept 10 hours in the tent waiting out the cold and rain. Chrissy invited me into her tent for some “working out the kinks” yoga and breakfast out of the misty fog.
The shelter was down a steep incline making for a good warm up first thing.

It all feels bittersweet as my last day accompanying Chrissy’s journey. I surprised myself with getting used to the rhythm of camping- finding a site, stretching, setting up the tent, getting water and warm dinners before heading to bed with the sunset. And the next morning everything in reverse 😝
