      Entspannen und Improtheater

      Bei Christin und David zu Hause hab ich erstmal ausgeschlafen heute Morgen. Begrüßt wurde ich dann mit frischen Donuts.
      Nachdem ich geduscht und meine Wäsche gemacht hatte, gab es ausnahmsweise mal gar nichts für mich zu tun, auch mal schön! Ich habe den ganzen Tag mit Christin Football geguckt und über alles mögliche geschnackt, bis ich dann am späten Nachmittag aufgebrochen bin.
      Ich war nämlich um 17:30 mit Jeff verabredet, mit dem ich mich auch schon im Disneyland getroffen hatte. Ich habe erst meine Sachen bei ihm abgeladen, dann sind wir nach Tustin bei Santa Ana gefahren, wo wir bei einem Italiener essen waren. Danach sind wir ins Impro-Theater, das echt super lustig war. Es war nur ein ganz kleines Theater, das mit 50 Zuschauern schon komplett gefüllt war, aber die Schauspieler waren echt gut und es hat super viel Spaß gebracht!
      Danach sind wir dann wieder zu Jeff nach Hause, wo ich heute „couchsurfe“. Meine letzte Nacht in Kalifornien. Die Zeit hier ging echt super schnell um, und es war cool, dass ich durchs Couchsurfing doch noch relativ viele Amerikaner kennengelernt habe, und sehen konnte, wie sie leben. Dabei war von Einzimmerwohnung bis zum luxuriösen Einfamilienhaus alles mit dabei, echt spannende und interessante Erfahrungen!      Read more

      We’re ba-aaaack!

      Left Auckland in drizzly rain, but secure in the knowledge that the next stop was Southern California, where I’m reliably informed ‘it never rains.’ We flew through the night in Air New Zealand’s comfortable Premium Economy, which is a much better value deal than their very dated and weirdly configured Business Class.

      It was a fairly smooth and relaxing 12 hour jaunt. Although we left Auckland 45 minutes late, we actually landed at LAX 5 minutes earlier than scheduled. Some may put this down to the vagaries of the jet stream, but I know it was more likely a result of me having a quiet word to the driver to ‘feed it the herbs,’ as I was over two years late for my date with a mouse.

      We breezed through LAX customs, even though the self-service kiosks have now gone, thanks Covid. Next stop was LAX-It, the ride share central pickup point, to get our Lyft Lux. Even though our ride was a brand new Lexus SUV my wallet still winced at how much this cost. I think my inner Scottish self will take over the purse strings for the return ride to the airport on the 13th.

      One hour later, just on 3pm local time, we rolled up to the JW Marriott Anaheim Resort and checked in. Very modern, very new, very nice. Especially because of it’s location. You’ll see what I mean when you look at the photo. I’d chosen a Disney Park view room and as I type this I can see the Incredicoaster and Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout rides from my hotel room window. Money well spent!

      After checking in priorities took over and we walked the mile and a half down South Harbor Boulevard to Target. Twinkies, Cheetos and danishes were bought, purely for the high nutritional value, and supplies in hand we caught a Lyft back to the hotel before wandering next door for dinner.

      Our first meal back in the land of the free was glorious. Of course it had to be The Cheesecake Factory. Louisiana chicken pasta, strawberry lemonade, and concluding with the tastebud sledgehammer that is the Hersheys chocolate cheesecake. The chicken pasta is listed as 2200 calories, and it’s worth every sumptuous calorie, although I’ve never managed to eat much more than half of it.

      Happily in a food coma I wobbled back up to the room for a well earned sleep, as I’d been travelling for 20 of the previous 24 hours.      Read more

      Disney Dag 1, de aankomst

      Op internet hadden we gezien dat onze eerste dag Disney samen viel met de viering van de 60e verjaardag. Op deze dag zouden ze open zijn van 6:00 's ochtends tot 6:00 de volgende dag. Wij waren uiteindelijk rond 10:00 in het park... we waren echter niet de enige...

      Vanwege het 60 jarige jubileum werd er op deze dag de nieuwe parade en vuurwerkshow gepresenteerd. Nu blijkt dat er nogal wat die-hard Disney fans zijn. Toen wij aankwamen zaten langs de route van de parade al mensen plekjes bezet te houden. Terwijl de parade pas om 20:30 was!!! Omdat de meesten het ook nog een soort 'must' vonden om de complete 24 uur in Disney te zijn (waren zelfs speciale t-shirts van) waren er veel aan het slapen en leek het soms net een zwerversopvang. Sommigen hadden al om 4 uur voor de poorten gestaan zodat ze om 6:00 als eerste naar binnen konden...

      Behalve de hoeveelheid mensen die op dit gebeuren af kwam, was het ook nog eens een bijzondere entourage. De gekste pakjes waren uit de kast getoverd en vrijwel iedereen had wel Mickey-mouse oren, een puntmuts of wat anders gek op het hoofd. Zelfs een stoere reus van 2 meter hoog en 1 meter breed liep rond in zijn mickey-mouse hemd.

      Wie dacht dat het verzamelen van buttons en speldjes uit de mode was die heeft het fout. Hier in Los Angeles/Anaheim is het helemaal in. Iedereen loopt ermee op keycords en rugtassen te pronken alsof ze militair zijn en het de verkregen onderscheidingen zijn.

      We moesten even bijkomen van deze pracht en praal (en de wachttijd bij de tascontrole, het blijft immers USA, en ingangscontrole) en Tamara ging naar de wc en Johan op een bankje zitten. Amerikanen zijn veel opener dan Nederlanders en al snel begon de persoon naast Johan te vragen hoe vaak hij hier al was geweest etc. Dit was een die-hard Disney fan van middelbare leeftijd die daar naast een andere fan zat. Beide kenden elkaar niet, maar zaten al een uurtje zo te praatten. Tijdens het gesprek kwam ook het onderwerp Honeymoon aan de orde. Na een tijdje een gesprek te hebben gevoerd liep de man weg en kwam terug met 4 buttons: 2 met "Just Married" en 2 met " First visit" .
      Uiteraard konden we zijn gebaar niet weigeren en spelden we de buttons op. Mede ook omdat we meer opvielen zonder buttons en gekke dingen dan met. En wie weet zou het ons nog wat brengen...      Read more

      Had the afternoon out at Santa Monica Pier and then caught a "taxi bike ride" to Venice Beach - a great afternoon, well worth the visit ❤️

      Landing in the USA

      We made it to LA, and it wasn't too bad. Inara didn't sleep because she watched "the boss baby" a few times. We had a few hours of turbulence so Brandon got the best sleep as he doesn't take turbulence too well and slept through it. Such a deep sleep that he had an accident. Supposdly it happens every flight.

      Our home for the next 4 nights is the Grand hyatt regency orange county hotel. We have a awesome bunk bed for the kids and a brewery downstairs for the adults.

      Today was a write off as we needed to get over the 14 hour flight. Inara finally fell asleep as we went though customs, through the hour drive and stayed asleep for the next few hours as we waited to be checked in.

      The pool and the spa was a quick recharge but exhausted Inara and Elisa, as soon as they got back from the pool passed out on the bed. Brandon and Josh went to Target across the street and Brandon fell asleep in the trolley and josh had to carry Brandon and the bag backs on his own.

      Elisa and Inara walked a mile and back after their nap to get a local telephone number but was unsuccessful, but Brandon and daddy then had their turn to nap.

      Santa Ana und die 8 Fahrspuren

      Okay...diese Woche startete mit einem Kurzbesuch ins "Carlsbad"...kurze Einführung in das Projekt und danach bin ich schon wieder die 1 Stunde Wegzeit zurück nach Santa Ana...was eigentlich einen schönen historischen Stadtkern hat,mir allerdings aber geraten wurde nach Einbruch der Dunkelheit sich nicht mehr allzuviel allein in den Straßen aufzuhalten...ganz im Gegensatz zu Orange County. Dieser Stadtteil ist echt richtig Nachbarfreundlich,aufgeräumt, sympathisch,kulinarisch,schön. ☺️ Dennoch Santa Ana hat Potential und wenn die Altstadt wieder auf Vordermann gebracht wurde hoffe ich hier auf eine generelle Besserung.

      Dienstag und Mittwoch durfte ich dann bei Fusion Biotec das Projekt dann starten. Warum ich expliudie Firma erwähne? Weil sie in einem historischen Gebäude gelegen ist,worauf sie besonders stolz sind und ich nach ein paar Begrüßungsworte vom Chef persönlich,sofort eine Tour bekommen habe. Die Firma befindet sich nämlich im alten "Ice House" soll heißen hier wurden doch tatsächlich ALLE Orangen gelagert die in der USA dann ausgeliefert wurden. 😃 Echt toll dass sie alte Teile des Gebäudes noch aufrecht erhalten...so kann man sehen wie sie damals die Kühlung aufrecht erhalten konnten. Die alten Motorenantriebe,Lüftungsräder und Isolation,alles zu sehen ☺️👍 zudem ist das Team echt richtig cool und toll und es war ein leichtes sich hier wohl zu fühlen. ☺️

      Da ich mit Mittwoch meine "Mission" hier in den Staaten offiziell beendet habe...hatte ich mich für heute spontan für Universal Studios entschieden. Einige von euch haben ja bereits einen Einblick bekommen. ☺️ Jetzt kommt aber was wichtiges...die 8 Fahrstreifen...🙈 Wenn man hier Anfänger ist dann braucht man kein Fitnessstudio mehr...es reicht eine Fahrt hin und retour respektive um L.A. herum. Hier ist einfach IMMER "Rush hour" 24/7. Für eine 50min Fahrt braucht man dann schon mal 2 Std. Da hilft auch der schnelle Flitzer nix...man rollt einfach oder steht. 😅 Dabei hat man viel Zeit zum Gucken und nachdenken und an manchen Schildern an den Brücken waren doch echt Sprayer am Werk und ich dachte nur WIE DAS DENN MÖGLICH IST bei dem ganzen Verkehr...könnte aber natürlich auch Spiderman gewesen sein. 😄 Wie dem auch sei...ein paar Tage bleiben mir ja noch und wenn ihr wollt dürft ihr gerne dabei sein. ☺️      Read more

      Met up with all the rest of the crew attending Congress this morning from CSO. Had a great tour around Beverley Hills and Hollywood.
