      Entspannen und Improtheater

      October 30, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Meine letzte Nacht in Kalifornien.

      We’re ba-aaaack!

      October 1, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Left Auckland in drizzly rain, but secure in the knowledge that the next stop was Southern California, where I’m reliably informed ‘it never rains.’ We flew through the night in Air New Zealand’s comfortable Premium Economy, which is a much better value deal than their very dated and weirdly configured Business Class.

It was a fairly smooth and relaxing 12 hour jaunt. Although we left Auckland 45 minutes late, we actually landed at LAX 5 minutes earlier than scheduled. Some may put this down to the vagaries of the jet stream, but I know it was more likely a result of me having a quiet word to the driver to ‘feed it the herbs,’ as I was over two years late for my date with a mouse.

We breezed through LAX customs, even though the self-service kiosks have now gone, thanks Covid. Next stop was LAX-It, the ride share central pickup point, to get our Lyft Lux. Even though our ride was a brand new Lexus SUV my wallet still winced at how much this cost. I think my inner Scottish self will take over the purse strings for the return ride to the airport on the 13th.

One hour later, just on 3pm local time, we rolled up to the JW Marriott Anaheim Resort and checked in. Very modern, very new, very nice. Especially because of it’s location. You’ll see what I mean when you look at the photo. I’d chosen a Disney Park view room and as I type this I can see the Incredicoaster and Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout rides from my hotel room window. Money well spent!

After checking in priorities took over and we walked the mile and a half down South Harbor Boulevard to Target. Twinkies, Cheetos and danishes were bought, purely for the high nutritional value, and supplies in hand we caught a Lyft back to the hotel before wandering next door for dinner.

Our first meal back in the land of the free was glorious. Of course it had to be The Cheesecake Factory. Louisiana chicken pasta, strawberry lemonade, and concluding with the tastebud sledgehammer that is the Hersheys chocolate cheesecake. The chicken pasta is listed as 2200 calories, and it’s worth every sumptuous calorie, although I’ve never managed to eat much more than half of it.

Happily in a food coma I wobbled back up to the room for a well earned sleep, as I’d been travelling for 20 of the previous 24 hours.

      Disney Adventure Park

      December 19, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Up and on the go again. All a bit slow but once we were in the park and saw Cars Land, we forgot our aches and pains. It is just like in the movie I was just in awe of it. Every little detail has something to do with cars- planter boxes, fences. Kids went on a roller coaster, I skipped that one. Went on a water ride which we all got wet, but Kellie copped the bulk of it.🤣🤣Her shoes were squelching as we walked out. Decided to go again before we dried off. After the second ride I don't think Kellie had a dry patch on her. Paid $5 for the dryer but didn't really help as she was dripping. While we had lunch and sat in the sun, she had her socks and shoes off trying to dry off. We had a casual afternoon, watched a bit of character dancing, learnt how to draw Goofy. We waited for the neon lights to be turned on in Radiator Springs. After, we walked down to Bubba Gump Shrimp for tea. 6.30pm we are bed.Read more

      Knott's Berry Farm

      December 2, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

Another day of rides. Not as busy or fancy as Disney but the rides are good. Rohan is becoming extremely daring and loved some of the fast roller coasters with loop the loops. Levi loved the coast rider and the log ride and puts his arms up at every opportunity. Both loved dinner that night at Bubba Gumps.Read more

      Disneyland

      December 1, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

After 11 hours of sleep and breakfast we were ready for our first day at Disneyland. We met Goofy on the way in and had loads of rides through the day. Our favourites were splash mountain, Indiana Jones, space mountain, buzz lightyear, the matterhorn but our most favourite was the Big Thunder Mountain train ride which we went on 6 times. Crowds were ok and had a great time. Walked about 17 km for the day and ready for bed straight after dinner.Read more

Finally made it after a long day of travel. Not much sleep so all ready for bed at 6:30. Everything went smoothly. Levi loved watching movies and TV on the plane while Rohan liked listening to music and following the map of where we were. Hotel looks good so far.Read more

      Disney day 2

      December 20, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Even though we had over 9hrs sleep still hard to drag ourselves out of bed. Brodie made it to breakfast today after Kellie talking about the amazing waffles. We had an early pass to today, not sure if it was worth getting out of bed for as some of the rides were temporarily closed and only 2 lands open for early morning. Once you get there you forget that it was a struggle to get out of bed. We did Fantasyland on our early pass as this is more small kid orientated. Realise how dark fairytales are and scary. Not sure how small kids go on these rides. I skipped Space mountain as I didn't like it in Paris, kids a bit disappointed, Paris a lot better. Did a few rides, a lot busier today and a lot more ride breakdowns. We left about 1.30pm to go home for lunch and rest, before going back tonight.
I would give anything for a decent cup of coffee. I wished I had bought some instant coffee with me because that is better than what they drink here.

Plenty to see and do by the sounds of it. Have heard others complain about America’s coffee. Just had Sandra and Allan for tea. They say hi and glad you are having a good time. Christmas Day must be getting closer. Went down the street today and it was bedlam. Can’t wait to see your Christmas in the snow. Cheers Annette

Yes plenty to do, we want to keep going as once you are inside Disneyland you forget how tired you are. Resting in the afternoon is helping. Glad I am missing the Christmas madness. Not sure how we will cope with the cold as it is good living weather here.

      Disneyland

      December 18, 2018 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 15 °C

Up early, down for breakfast by 6.30am. Full of families with young kids, don't they sleep in?! At Disneyland by 8am. We were able to walk onto most rides without waiting. I did every ride with the kids so far, had lots of fun. Disney's attention to detail is unbelievable and the vivid colours are beautiful. We had good day. We planned to come home early afternoon for a rest but we ended up watching the parade. While waiting for the parade, it was fun people watching. We tried a few Disney snacks- Mickey Mouse Beignets and Dole Whip. The Beignets were yummy, Kellie thought they tasted like Krispy Kreme donuts without the glaze. The dole whip was a pineapple flavoured soft serve, we shared this one. It was ok but probably wouldn't get it again. It ended up being after 4pm when we left. We wanted some salad veggies and looking on the map some groceries stores not too far. Well their blocks are a lot bigger than ours it ended up a couple of k's walk. A few groceries & a couple of ugly sweaters later we called an Uber. We are heading back later for fireworks and a laser light show.Read more

You will need a rest day soon. Looks like you are getting good weather. We had a thunderstorm during the night that lasted quite awhile but no rain. Sun out today and warmed up quickly. Farmers back reaping after a week off.

      Legoland

      December 22, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

Another early start to catch the train down to Legoland.
Interesting trip, it felt like we were home as there were gum trees along the way.
We checked into our hotel then caught a shuttle to Legoland.
Legoland was a bit under whelming, not because we just come from Disneyland, but compared to the Germany one we visited. Not a lot of Lego and what there was, it was faded, which I understand it is mostly sunny here. Photos don't show how faded it really was. A bit disappointed for Brodie as the displays in Germany were great. Best thing at Legoland was the apple fries, minus the whipped cream. Apple chips tossed in cinnamon and sugar.
We were back at our hotel by 2pm and rested for most of the afternoon. About 5pm we wondered over to the Outlet Shopping Mall, which was pointless as we don't have room for clothes or shoes. Early night was in order.

Good morning Gavin’s gang, Christmas Eve and another picture perfect day here. Mid 20’s sunshine and no wind for 3 days in a row. Must be going to turn to sh...t soon 🙂. Your stay in LA nearly to an end and off to the snow. Hope it’s as much fun there for you all. Had Christmas drinks up at the Will’s last night. Nothing planned for today. Brian is playing in the shed and I think I’m organised for tomorrow. Just a quiet Christmas lunch with Miranda planned. Safe travels to you next destination and looking forward to more photos and updates. Cheers Annette.

It's hard to believe it's Christmas. Hopefully we will buy a small tree tomorrow and a few small presents. It's a bit hard as it's not Christmas until the next day here. Will be thinking of you all. Debbie xx

      Disney Dag 1, de aankomst

      May 22, 2015 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C
