    Arrival

    May 27, 2022 in Hungary ⋅ ☀️ 75 °F

Flew from Istanbul to Hungary today. Learned a lot about the history of Hungary from the taxi driver on the way over. Walked around the town to start exploring, saw the Danube, and got Paprika chicken with spaetzle at Nudli. Not as good as the Hungarian restaurant I ate at in Vienna, so the search is on.Read more

  • Walking tour

    May 28, 2022 in Hungary ⋅ ☁️ 68 °F

Began the day with a free walking tour of the city. Those are always good to learn the history and see the main sites and are a good jumping off point of where to go from there in the city. I learned a lot of Hungary's history from the guide which was similar to what the taxi driver was telling me about. Also saw some beautiful and historical sites that I shall have to revisit in depth, and he told us what he recommends seeing in the city. Starting to think 2.5 weeks is not enough. Later on, I went to one of the restaurants he recommended. The goulash soup was good but the rest was not alas, so the hunt for an authentic Hungarian restaurant continues.Read more

  • 🍬

    May 29, 2022 in Hungary ⋅ ⛅ 61 °F

Moved to my official airbnb, catching up on work, getting groceries. Tried this candy bar that Hungarians supposedly love, it was not very good.

  • Bibimbap

    May 30, 2022 in Hungary ⋅ ☁️ 66 °F

A day of catching up on work, dealing with charges from Dubai (don't run a red light in UAE!), and trying to find adequate groceries in this city 🤦‍♀️ however, I did make a pretty bomb bibimbap, so I consider that a success! 🙌 someone wanna tell me where I can find bean sprouts here? 😆Read more

  • St. Stephen's Basilica

    June 1, 2022 in Hungary ⋅ ☀️ 72 °F

Went to St. Stephen's Basilica which was very impressive! The inside was incredibly decorated and designed, and then the view from the top is great and you can see the whole city as no building is allowed to be higher. After that, met up with a new American friend, got strudel (Austrians make it better), then looked at the Holocaust memorial (complicated history with the statue).Read more

  • Thermal Baths

    June 2, 2022 in Hungary ⋅ ⛅ 75 °F

Budapest is nicknamed "the city of spas," so I went to check out their most popular thermal bath today! It was quite impressive, felt like I was bathing in ancient Rome haha. They have 18 pools as well as saunas and steam rooms and such, and each pool is a different temperature, so we went from one pool to the next to try them out. The best part was this circle in the middle of the outside pool that had a current so everyone was just enjoying hyperspeed swimming in this circle and it was like a human merry-go-round of people which was hilarious. Hard to explain, you'll have to see a video. After that, got Hungarian food for dinner. Still in the search of the best paprika chicken.Read more

  • Margaret Island

    June 3, 2022 in Hungary ⋅ ☀️ 77 °F

Checked out Margaret Island today. It's in the middle of the Danube and is a great spot to feel like you are getting away from the city (while still being in the middle of it) and to bike or walk or play sports. They have a musical fountain which is really cool, as well as various sports complexes, historical buildings, and so forth. Afterwards, got Thai food at this place where you could watch the family cook and it felt like I was eating in someone's home, so that was a nice family-owned restaurant. Then checked out Szimpla Kert - the most popular ruin bar - which was really unique, then went to a techno boat afterwards.Read more

  • Budapest Zoo

    June 4, 2022 in Hungary ⋅ ☁️ 70 °F

Went to the zoo to see some animals! 😊 surprisingly saw some I had never seen before. Animals are always interesting to observe. Got a traditional Hungarian sponge cake afterwards, then went back to the same Thai restaurant. Met up with new Belgian friends and we went dancing and then went back to the techno boat afterwards. I am quite getting into techno haha.Read more

  • Parliament and Buda side

    June 6, 2022 in Hungary ⋅ ☁️ 75 °F

Booked a tour to visit the inside of the Parliament building. Quite impressive! It is one of the most visited landmarks in the world and has 691 rooms! After that, I went to check out the Buda side finally. Crossed the Danube, passed through the Vienna gate, and then walked around the Buda Castle district and checked out Matthias Church which was beautiful, Fisherman's Bastion which was unique, and Buda Castle itself which was amazing too. Went to a nice cafe as well. Will need to come back and explore more.Read more
