Thien Mu Pagoda

I kicked off the day with a visit to Thien Mu Pagoda, one of Hue’s most iconic landmarks. Situated on Ha Khe Hill, overlooking the Perfume River, this seven-story pagoda has been standing for centuries, exuding a serene atmosphere that is perfect for quiet reflection. As I approached the pagoda, I couldn’t help but admire the beauty of the surrounding greenery and the peaceful river view.

Thien Mu is not just a religious site, but also a symbol of Hue's cultural heritage. The pagoda’s tower, known as the Phuoc Duyen Tower, is the first thing that grabs your attention. It’s a seven-story octagonal structure that can be seen from miles away, making it one of the most recognizable landmarks in the city.

As I walked through the entrance, I was struck by the peacefulness of the place. The temple grounds were well-maintained, with lush gardens and ancient trees providing shade. The interior of the pagoda was equally mesmerizing, with detailed carvings and statues that reflected the rich history and religious significance of the site.

One of the highlights of the visit was seeing the Austin car that transported Thich Quang Duc, a Buddhist monk who famously self-immolated in 1963 to protest the persecution of Buddhists in Vietnam. The car is a poignant reminder of Vietnam’s struggle for religious freedom and left a deep impression on me.
