Explore Khai Dinh Tomb

The next stop on my journey was the Tomb of Emperor Khai Dinh, located about 10 kilometers outside the city. Of all the royal tombs in Hue, Khai Dinh's tomb is perhaps the most unique, as it blends Vietnamese and European architectural styles. The tomb sits on a hill, offering stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

To reach the main building, I had to climb a long flight of stairs flanked by stone soldiers and elephants. The climb was well worth it, as the tomb itself is a masterpiece of intricate design and artistry. The exterior of the tomb is made of dark stone, giving it a solemn and imposing appearance. However, the interior is a stark contrast, with colorful mosaics and elaborate decorations covering every surface.

The highlight of the tomb is the main hall, where a life-sized bronze statue of Emperor Khai Dinh sits atop his ornate grave. The attention to detail in the mosaics, carvings, and sculptures is simply astounding.
