Still based at Arthur River we drove to Corinna in the South Tarkine on the advice of multiple locals. They failed to mention the 90kms of gravel road, much of which has seen better days. Two and a half hours later we arrived at Corinna on the banks of the Pieman River. This was an early piners and mining explorers settlement with a notoriously treacherous bar to cross at the mouth of the river. Memorials to many people lost on the bar were peppered through the township. The only way south from here is across the "Fatman Barge" that runs on demand. The barge operator seemed to spend his time in the local tavern waiting for his next fare. We ventured out on the Whyte River walk which was a circuit from the town to the Whyte River/Pieman River junction. A lovely walk that turned out a bit harder than we originally thought.
