Family research showed Faye's Great Grandfther lived for many years in Young on the goldfields. At the time the locality was called Lambing Flat and was the site of the goldfield riots against the Chinese miners in 1860/61. It was a shame much of the historic research sites were closed, we did visit the Chinese Memorial Garden which is now at the site of the dams that provided water for the diggings. Faye's ancestor Martin Hoffman, an immigrant from Germany in 1860, operated a puddling machine for gold extraction at the height of the gold rush. The gardens were lovely.Read more
