    1 de abril de 2017, Cingapura ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

An iconic statue of a lion head with a fish body. This symbol is widely used as a mascot and national personification of Singapore.

"The body symbolises Singapore's humble beginnings as a fishing village when it was called Temasek, meaning 'sea town' in Old Javanese. Its head represents Singapore's original name, Singapura, or 'lion city' in Malay." (YourSingapore.com)Leia mais

  • MRT Station

I've been impressed by a lot in Singapore so far - but one thing that keeps amazing me is the public transit here. Not only does it span all of Singapore for easy access, but it's so clean and well maintained!!

To use the MRT, you'll need an EZ link card.

  • Clarke Quay

    2 de abril de 2017, Cingapura ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

I bet this place is an awesome hangout spot for night life. Restaurants, pubs, and entertainment all in one area with a ton of outdoor seating. At 8 am on a Sunday, it's pretty dead here.

All along the quay, there are boats lined up for anyone interested in a river cruise.Leia mais

Near 60 Eu Tong Sen St, Singapore 059804

After making a few wrong turns, I finally made it to China Town! First stop - Chicken bao. This delicious treat is a steamed bun filled with chicken, egg, and sauce. Its about the size of two fists, and is pretty dense. Great food option if eating on the go! (Especially for $1.30)Leia mais

  • People's Park

    2 de abril de 2017, Cingapura ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

101 Upper Cross St, Singapore 058357

While looking for the China Town market, I wandered down an alley i thought looked familiar from a few days ago. I ended up in a giant food court centred around a sign that said "People's Park". Naturally, I made a full loop to look at what all the vendor stands had to offer. And... I walked away with yet another lime juice. 😍Leia mais

  • China Town

    2 de abril de 2017, Cingapura ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Found it! Now some souvenir shopping for the ladies in my family.

While wandering through the main multi-level market, I started to hear loud, rhythmic banging. So I went to find where it was coming from. In the middle of the 2nd floor food court, a group of men were performing the traditional lion dance for the public!Leia mais

  • Buddha Tooth Relic Temple

    2 de abril de 2017, Cingapura ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

    288 S Bridge Rd, Singapore 058840

This was one of the few Singapore attractions I actually researched before arriving. This Tang dynasty style temple houses religious relics with ornate rooms and a serene rooftop garden.

Out of respect for the temple, visitors should mind the venue requests.

    1) Since I was in shorts, I borrowed a long apron from the temple staff to cover my legs. Anyone with sleeveless shirts should borrow a scarf to cover bare shoulders.

    2) Many rooms were open for public viewing - but there were folks at the temple for prayer and meditation. Visitors should minimize conversation - not difficult for me since I was on my own.

    3) Photography is prohibited in certain areas of the temple - specifically the relic room.

  • Marriott Views

    3 de abril de 2017, Cingapura ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

A few shots from the executive lounge at my hotel. Full disclosure - I don't actually have access to this lounge unless a well-traveled colleague let's me in... or I hide behind the corner until a non - suspecting business person swipes their access card. 😇

One neat thing about Singapore is they really maximize roof space. Many hotels, apartments, and office complexes will have rooftop gardens and/or pools for their residents.

  • Goro Goro Korean buffet

    7 de abril de 2017, Cingapura ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

    Orchard Gateway@Emerald, 218 Orchard Road, #04-01, Singapore 238851

As it turns out, I have family in Singapore! The Villamins are from the Philippines and moved to Singapore over 10 years ago for Tito Carlos' career as an egineer for the MRT system. Both Carlos and Myra work for the MRT, and their three children (Charmaine, Mary, and Charles) are experiencing life as Singaporean residents. They are a very sweet and open family - and I am very happy i got a chance to meet them!

We all went out for dinner at Goro Goro - a family style Korean restaurant that reminded me of hot pot. The premise - everyone goes to the buffet to pick out fresh and uncooked meat, vegetables, and noodles for tableside preparation. As a group, everyone can cook their selection in one of 2 types of broth per customer preference. Great bonding experience! Also a great business model...

  • Singapore Botanic Gardens

    9 de abril de 2017, Cingapura ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

I was determined to make today both start and end with flowers. A trip to the botanic gardens was a must - especially for their national Orchid garden!

Most of the park is free with exception of the orchid garden (5$). Many runners, families, dogs + their humans, and - of course - tourists wandered the park today taking in the "beautiful" hot and humid weather of Singapore. There were even groups that gathered for prayer and (hot) yoga!Leia mais

Interesting park featuring statues and dioramas depicting Chinese mythology. It was built in 1937 by the creators of tiger balm (ointment used for headaches and soar joints), and was overtaken in 1942 by Japanese soldiers for ship surveillance.

100% free to public, rumored to be haunted, and guaranteed to give you nightmares.

  • Little India

    9 de abril de 2017, Cingapura ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

Little India is the one place in Singapore I was advised to not wander to alone. Luckily, an adventurous colleague was willing to tag along.

It was vey similar to China Town in its set up, but with it's own cultural spin. I loved the colors and the traditional music that played in all the shops we passed.Leia mais

  • Abdul Gafoor Mosque

    9 de abril de 2017, Cingapura ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

"Although I may not agree with some of the beliefs, I respect them."

Continuing on with my visit to the various temples around Singapore, I popped in a local mosque in little India that welcomes visitors. At the visitors center, you can borrow a robe and read about the religion before taking a self guided tour.Leia mais
