I was able to give a small history/culture lesson about the British and the post boxes. If you look closely, you'll see 3 parts that get added to the front of the post box. The 'R' on the right stand for Rex (which means "King"). The 'G' is for King George and the 'VI' is because he was the 6th George. King George VI was Queen Elizabeth II's father. George was his regnal name. His birth name was Albert (George was one of his middle names). Each post box is marked based on the current monarch. That means that this post box was put there between 1936 and 1952 (the years he was King).Read more
