    Completing the Otago Trail

March 24, 2014 in New Zealand

Our final day on the Otago Rail Trail was a relatively (and partially downhill) ride of about 45 km to Clyde, Up to now we had escaped the legendary bad weather, but we could all sense that a change was coming. The clouds were building and we could almost smell an impending downpour. The unknown factor was whether we would reach the end of the trail before the rain started.

We rolled along in fairly brisk fashion, looking over our shoulders to see is the rain was getting any closer. By some fluke (miracle) of nature, we all managed to complete the ride before the storm broke.

After taking some time to look around the town and take a few pictures, the bikes were packed into the trailer for the last time. We climbed into the bus for the drive to Queenstown. No sooner were we in the bus, than the rain started. It kept falling all the rest of the day. It was a comforting feeling to know that our planning had been perfect. None of us cared if it rained for the next week - our cycling was over.
