Nashville, OLC, April 2023

Traveling to Nashville, TN for the first time, for a work conference. I'm joined by my good friend and co-worker Jay. We presented our own work at OLC, took some inspiration from others, and enjoyed Downtown Nashville. Read more

  • This resort is nuts!

Checking into the Gaylord Opryland resort. This place is HUGE. We’re talking over 3.3 million square feet, 2,888 guest rooms huge. Apparently, it’s the largest non-Casino Hotel in North America. Of course, with almost 3000 rooms they can’t all be great. And while my room is lovely, my view really sucks. So much for the perks of being a Marriott Bonvoy member.Read more

  • Getting my bearings

After a long travel day, with the resort being so big, I decided to wander around and grab something to eat at the sports bar that was closest to my room, which is at the very end of the resort.

I came to OLC a day early, to attend the chatGPT 3-hour pre-session. While it was interesting, unfortunately, it wasn’t money well spent and I knew as much as the presenters. My first full day at the resort was a little bit of a blur, with a little more wandering around in the evening.Read more

With day one of conference sessions complete and our presentation in the bag, it was time for Jay and I to head to downtown Nashville. First stop, the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge, spanning the Cumberland River.

The John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge, formerly the Shelby Street Pedestrian Bridge, connects downtown Nashville to the residential suburbs of East Nashville. It was built from 1907-09 and was originally named the Sparkman Street Bridge. The bridge was closed to automobile traffic in 1998 and has been restored for pedestrian use.

Last day hanging with friend and co-worker Jay. Lots of OLC sessions to attend, fountains to see, and the boat ride around the 4.5 acre Delta Atrium to take. They say they the indoor river was created using water taken from every river across the United States. 😳Read more

  • Nashville Palace

    April 21, 2023 in the United States ⋅ 🌧 68 °F

Rebecca recommended this honky tonk that was across the street from the resort. I didn’t realize how close it was, until my Uber driver chuckled, drove me through the resort, across the street, and pulled up in front of the honky tonk. I didn’t want to walk anyway. 😝 It was threatening rain, and even though I had an umbrella, I preferred to keep my shoes dry as well.

Nashville Palace is a huge honky tonk that is separated into a smaller front bar with dancing, and a larger "Urban Cowboy" style honky tonk in the back. The main bar was hosting a cowboy all-male review, so I just hung out in the front bar for a few hours, watched the locals get their 2-step on, and finally managed to NOT pay $14 for a beer.
