    Today, we bought a street car pass for $3.00, which gave you 24 hours of hop on, hop off use of the transport system in the city. Our first stop was only one of the 40 cemeteries in the city.
    In New Orleans, people are buried above ground primarily due to the city's high water table and below-sea-level location.Read more

    This morning, we left Lafayette and made our way to Beaumont for the last 2 nights of our trip. On the way, we took a detour and ended up in a small country town called Crowley. This little town in the middle of nowhere is the Rice Capital of America.

    Beaumont, Texas, is a coastal city in Southeast Texas, known for its rich history in the oil industry and its unique blend of Texas and Cajun cultures. It's located 90 miles east of Houston.

    The Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown Museum is located in Beaumont, Texas, to commemorate the discovery of oil at the Spindletop Hill salt dome in Beaumont on Jan. 10, 1901. The discovery sparked an oil boom in Texas that continues today.
    At approximately 10:30 a.m. on January 10, 1901, while the Hamill brothers were attempting to free their drill from the crevice, the famous Lucas Gusher blew in. Oil sprayed more than 100 feet above the derrick for nine days until the well was capped.
    It was the greatest oil well ever seen. It was flowing 80,000 – 100,000 barrels per day.

    Stayed our last night in Beaumont, which is approximately 132km from Houston Airport. Of course, we had to check out a few more shops in Beaumont, as we had a lot of time to kill. I went to an outlet store called Ross, and Allan wanted to go back to the Tractor Supply Company . Also, we had to have one last look at a Buc-ee's before leaving the USA.Read more
