  • The storm!

    January 22, 2017 in New Zealand ⋅ 🌧 15 °C

We have spent most of the day up in our loft reading as there is a crazy storm outside! The ocean is definitely wild. We did venture out for a stroll around town and braved the winds. Pizza and a light festival are on tonight's agenda.Read more

  • Festival of Lights- is it summer yet?

    January 23, 2017 in New Zealand ⋅ 🌬 15 °C

We went out for a cold, rainy, windy night at the New Plymouth Festival of Lights. Apparently we are already well into summer!!! We had delicious hot chocolate (ice cream for andreas of course). It turned out to be an awesome night with a really good live band and a very strange fire dancing show. The best part- it was free! Living frugal and saving money for our upcoming adventure!Read more

Great weekend in blehniem to celebrate Joon and Trixie's wedding! There was only about 10-15 min of rain on Saturday which was great because it gave us a chance to use our ponchos! Sunday was absolutely beautiful- BBQ and cricket.Read more

  • Preparing for our ATW trip

    March 15, 2017 in New Zealand ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

We are quite busy at our place getting ready for our ATW trip. Only 2.5 weeks left of work! We are selling everything we own and I have been working 12 hour days twice a week. We started getting our vaccinations for Rabies, Typhoid, Hep A, and Yellow Fever. The vaccinations are way more expensive than we thought, but we don't want to die... so we are paying the money. Money comes in, and money goes out.Read more

    April 10, 2017 in New Zealand ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Andreas and I have spent the last week in Auckland relaxing with the Marwick family and friends. However we are ready for our month in the South Island. Jon and Barb's campervan is packed up and ready to go! Today we drive from Auckland to Wellington (about 8 hours). Tomorrow morning we pick up Brooke and Peter from the Wellington airport! Horray! We can't wait to see them. We will spend tomorrow exploring Wellington and the next day we get on the Picton Ferry to the South Island!Read more

  • Wellington

    April 11, 2017 in New Zealand ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

They finally arrived! We had a great day exploring Wellington. During the day we went to the Gallipoli exhibit in Te Papa museum, went to an old used booked store, walked around the waterfront. At night we met up with Andreas's friend Nick Lowther and went out for Indian food. We finished with a drink at 'The Library' a very cool bar. We stayed at an awesome apartment right in town with an ocean view.Read more

  • Picton ferry

    April 12, 2017 in New Zealand ⋅ 🌧 15 °C

We woke up early to take the Picton Ferry from Wellington to Picton. Peter and Brooke picked up their campervan and we were off! We did make time for peter and Brooke to have their first meat pie. Cyclone Cook hit today and the rain was crazy! Including a few flooded roads that we barely got over. A wild day for Peter's first time driving on the narrow and windy NZ roads.Read more

  • Lake Rotoiti

    April 13, 2017 in New Zealand ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

We spend our first night in our campervans at lake Rotoiti. It rained all night. But it made for a great misty walk in the morning and our first DIP IN THE POOL! So cold but so refreshing. We hit the first dump station and made our way to the west coast. We spent the night in a free campsite near the Pancake rocks. We went across the street for dinner at a Local pub. That had way more people than we expected. Maybe this wasn't the best place to debut my socks/sandals look in public. More rain all night.Read more

  • Dunedin

    April 25, 2017 in New Zealand ⋅ ☀️ 11 °C

Yesterday we drove 5 hours from Christchurch down to Dunedin. We have been exploring Dunedin with our friends Paul and Kathryn. This is as far South as I have ever been! We walked up the steepest street in the world - Baldwin and saw a Royal Albatross fly above our heads. This is the only place in the world that they live and they are critically endangered.Read more
