Sawn Rocks

On the Road to Narrabri in the Mt Kaputar National Park we found these fabulous rock formations called Sawn Rocks. The area was very well set out for tourists with a track and steps. The rocks are 40m high basalt resembling organ pipes. Sawn Rocks have resulted from the slow and even cooling of molten rock causing individual crystals within the rock to align perfectly to create the stunning hexagonal natural pillars. We arrived late in the afternoon which was perfect light to photograph the formations.
