  • Day 230: Walk around Aral

    The little town is quite interesting to walk around. There is a fisherman museum that definitely worth a visit. It is a good place to learn more about how Aral Sea has changed over the years.

  • Day 233: Walk around Turkestan

    We walked around the city centre of Turkestan. The highlight was the UNESCO World Heritage, the Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi! We could finally see the iconic picture that we could only find on Lonely Planet cover. At that moment, we realized that we were really in Central Asia!Read more

  • Day 235: Ancient City of Sauran

    What a amazing adventure to this place! We got a collective taxi to this place and walked around tor 4 hours under the Sun. It is one of the silk road settlement. There were a lot of pottery pieces in this area as they have never excavated the area. Hard to imagine the whole city was here during the ancient period. We felt like we were walking on a desert!

    After visiting, we walked to the highway and tried to hitch-hike back to Turkistan. We were so lucky that we met 2 ladies who were kind enough to give us a ride. They even gave us a melon as gift!

  • Day 240: Dordoi Bazaar

    We didn’t plan to visit this place. But a friend that we met in the hostel recommended this place to us. We thought it would be an interesting, so we visited here by bus #226! It was as interesting as expected. The whole Bazaar is filled with containers. All the stores used 2 or 3 storey containers to make up storage at the top and the store front at the bottom. What a genius idea! There are a lot of stores here selling different products. We think that it worths visiting when you were in the area!Read more

  • Day 241: Bishkek Central Mosque

    We didn’t know this giant mosque 🕌 exists in Bishkek. Its size is a bit smaller than the Blue Mosque in Turkey. But it is still stunning when visiting. It’s amazing to see all four doors were open and prayers kept coming out during prayer time. Glad that we dropped by before we left Bishkek.Read more

  • Day 242: Western Bus Station

    We went to the Western Bus Station in Bishkek early in the morning hoping to catch the mini-bus south to Toktogul. We read from online that there were mini-buses run at 10am,11am and 2pm. When we arrived, the drivers at the collective taxi stand lied to us that the mini-van would not start until 3pm. Lucky that we went to the other side of the bus station and saw the mini-van stand! Eventually we go on the bus and pay only 400 som each instead of 1000 som for the collective taxi.Read more

  • Day 243: Walk around Toktogul

    We stayed in Toktogul for 2 nights to leave is a full day to explore Toktogul and Toktogul lake. We hiked the whole day and got a good view of the Toktogul Lake. On the way to the lake, we passed by an old Soviet Ferris Wheel 🎡 as well.Read more

  • Day 244: Tash-Komur

    After 3 hours of bus ride, we arrived at Tash-Komur at 10.10am. Originally we thought the bus would drop us off at the bus station. But the driver was nice enough to ask us to get off on the highway because the bus would not go directly to the bus station. After checking with the locals, they directed us to wait at the bridge and the bus to Arkit would pass by there around 12pm. While waiting, we were offered a few rides to Arkit, but we would like to prove if the bus would show up. So we kept on waiting.Read more

  • Day 244: Arkit

    After 2 hours of waiting for the bus and another 2 hours of bus ride, we were here, Arkit! It’s definitely an underrated place, we love the quietness and authenticity of this small village. The reason we cam here? Because it’s the gateway to the Sary-Chelek lake, a UNESCO World Heritage.Read more

  • Day 245: Walk around Arkit

    We spent a day walking around this tiny village. It was really a surprise as it was so relaxing to be in the area. We took our walk easy today to prepare for a bigger journey to the lake tomorrow.

  • Day 247: Leaving Arkit

    Time in Arkit flew by! We enjoyed our time there very much. It was, by far, one of the highlights in Kyrgyzstan 🇰🇬 We farewelled with our lovely host, Sabira, and caught our 6am bus heading to Osh.
