Another chill day of riding along the Great Taste Trail. I met up with a fellow Canadian, vegan bikepacker who happens to also have the last name Webb. Nice time sharing travelling stories before rolling up the road to my Wwoofing gig for the month. I would spend the entirety of February with my lovely hosts David and Henriette, as well as their pup Koura. I gardened, dog walked, wood chipped, and helped clean around the house. On The Road Again

After a month of stillness in Māpua, I got back on the road for a 42km ride to Kaiteriteri. I stayed at the campsite, met up with a friend, and enjoyed the stellar sunset views.

Tackling the Tākaka Hill

A 72km day with some juicy climbs up and over the Tākaka hill. A gorgeous day of riding with fun descents. Visited the tapu Waikoropupu Springs and stayed the night at a super cool beach-access only Warmshowers Host. They had a big property covered in Ponga and other native plants. We even had a visit from a Kōtuku in the pond.Read more

Absolutely gorgeous ride over to the west coast of Golden Bay. A special freedom camping spot called Anatori. Right on the rugged waves with kind folks camping there. A cool gravel ride in on remote roads through multiple estuaries. Saw a Kōtuku and a rainbow.Read more

Farewell Anatori, Hello Farewell Spit

51km ride up to the top of Golden Bay to visit the famous Farewell Spit. Stunning ride out of Anatori made even more adventurous by a dramatic head-over-the-handlebars fall on the gravel road. Bumped up my chin and elbow but overall was A-OK. Set up camp at Farewell Gardens Holiday Park then enjoyed a nice 8km beach walk.Read more

Back Down

Started the day with a ~8km hilltop loop walk around Farewell Spit. Enjoyed stunning views of the surrounding areas and got to hangout with some cute sheep. Hitched a ride back out to camp from a nice mother-daughter duo. Then a cruisy 23km ride back down to Collingwood.Read more

Chill 11km cruise to stay with Victoria, a woman I met at the beach who organized Golden Bay’s first nude ride in the 90s! Got to hangout with her cute pup and help out around the property. Also spotted the Scooby Doo Mystery Machine in town.Read more

Working at a Tequila Distillery?

Woke up this morning with no clue where I’d be resting my head tonight. Ended up chatting with a local in a cafe—turns out he runs the only Tequila distillery in NZ and has a small campground on site. Ended up staying for a couple nights, enjoying some fires, and helping out by picking and packing some peaches. You never know where you’ll end up when you’re travelling!Read more

27km round trip cruise to Tata beach where I spent the day lounging in the sun and swimming in the ocean. Absolutely beautiful spot with a stunning ride in.

Spent the morning swimming at Paines Ford river before hitching a ride with my Wwoofing family back to Māpua. We managed to squeeze my bike through the door of their RV and I enjoyed a twisting, winding ride laying on the bed with their pup Koura. A sweet reunion!Read more
