Traveler The singing ship actually pre-dated the Anzac memorial by many years. It commemorates James Cooks exploration of Keppel Bay in 1770. The "ship" represent Cooks ship the Endeavour. The design resulted from a competition and the singing pipes were designed by lecturers from the University. Local concrete and steel contractor SW Kele contributed heavily to the project. Many local private people and clubs helped raise funds. The original vision was to have the ship sited elsewhere but Emu Park became the place for this iconic monument.
