Swimming with Dolphins

Our next overnight excursion was all the way on the other side of the island - so we left pretty early. The weather was not in our favour but after stopping till the worst had past we continued. It actually got pretty cold due to the elevation.

Finally we arrived at Sunari beach - it was supposed to be a surprise for Jeroen but since the town even had a sculpture of dolphins at the roundabout it was pretty clear.
The next morning we had to get up at 5:00 to get to our boat.

We were on a boat with 6 other people and after waiting for over an hour trying to find the wild bottle nose dolphins - we found them. They are super fast so you have to keep going, but taking turns we could have two at a time hanging off the side of the boat holding onto a wooden swing. If you were lucky you could see the dolphins under the water. Charly was in her element and spent the most time hanging there - even with one arm to hold the go pro. But it was worth the sore muscles.
There were some jelly fish larvae in the water that stung - but Charly being covered in UV swim clothes she didn’t feel it as much.

Charly had done a lot of research to find a more „ethical“ tour provider - but in the end one has to know that there is nothing ethical about driving after wild dolphins and swimming next to them. They would be best left alone - but on the other side there is of course the desire to be able to see them with your own eyes.
In our minds it was a super unique magical memory - but something that we wouldn’t repeat. Once is enough.

Back we went to our villa for the final days.
After visiting a beach we ate pizza and Jeroen really tried to make friends with the cat that lived at the restaurant. The cat was not so into being friends so Jeroen got scratched. We didn’t want to take the risk and decided to drive two hours to ubud to find a hospital that had the vaccine. Note inething you want to take a chance on. Czytaj więcej
