Kirkenes

SAS canceled our original flight into Kirkenes and we had to come a day early. We weren’t looking forward to it. But…as it happens all too often it was a wonderful day. We visited a local museum, stopped in at a pub and chatted with the owner for a while and met 3 servers at the hotel. Wonderful people all. Remy, the pub owner was an exchange student in Iowa, Alan is from Scotland and travels the world, Achmed, is from Syria and is here because his parents sent him and his brother (13 & 15) away to protect him from violence in his country and Anton who is here with his wife and child after leaving Ukraine, because of the war. The world is a smaller place now that I know people whose lives have been torn apart. Tomorrow we board the ship. None of the outdoor pictures were taken at night. It was dark at 3:15.Leggi altro
