    November 1, 2025 in Denmark ⋅ ☁️ 54 °F

We did a bus tour and a boat tour and saw most of the city. It’s a nice, clean city, flat and reminiscent of Germany - food wise at least. On the boat tour we saw a floating sauna filled young men. They did require clothing for that sauna. 🙂 Biking is a major part of their commute and there are bikes everywhere.Read more

  • On to The Top of the World

    November 2, 2025 in Norway ⋅ ☁️ 37 °F

Today was a travel day to the top of the world, Kirkenes, Norway. Technically, we will be in a town a bit farther north in a couple days, but we’re above the Arctic Circle for the next 4 days. The weather has gotten much colder and the sun sets at 2pm. We’re finally glad we brought our cold weather gear. 🥶Read more

  • Kirkenes

    Nov 3–5, 2025 in Norway ⋅ ☁️ 37 °F

SAS canceled our original flight into Kirkenes and we had to come a day early. We weren’t looking forward to it. But…as it happens all too often it was a wonderful day. We visited a local museum, stopped in at a pub and chatted with the owner for a while and met 3 servers at the hotel. Wonderful people all. Remy, the pub owner was an exchange student in Iowa, Alan is from Scotland and travels the world, Achmed, is from Syria and is here because his parents sent him and his brother (13 & 15) away to protect him from violence in his country and Anton who is here with his wife and child after leaving Ukraine, because of the war. The world is a smaller place now that I know people whose lives have been torn apart. Tomorrow we board the ship. None of the outdoor pictures were taken at night. It was dark at 3:15.Read more

  • Onboard the MS Richard With

    November 4, 2025 in Norway ⋅ ☁️ 37 °F

Today we boarded the ship and much to our surprise, it was much nicer than we thought it would be. As nice as a cruise ship. We were seated with another couple for dinner and we were planning on dining alone. But, Alice and Andy are from Ireland and England, respectively, and we closed the dining room down, sharing stories and laughing. So, we will enjoy making new friends over the next few days. The stops are short, but on one stop, the crew took us to a fortress and we learned more about the war from Norway’s perspective. I love learning all this history and gaining perspective from a new part of the globe.Read more

  • Hammerfest

    November 5, 2025 in Norway ⋅ ☁️ 43 °F

Today was relaxing. The first pics are a small fishing village. We didn’t even get off the boat. The one port to get off at is Hammerfest. It is the northern most city on earth. There is another place that claims to be, but it is just a village. Hammerfest is a good sized town. There is a natural gas plant that has a burning chimney that is kind of a city landmark. They have a small, but nicely appointed mall and several churches, one of which we went to see. Achmed, from our post a couple days ago is an Electrical Engineer who works there. He has 3 jobs that he works to support his family in Syria. Tonight we are going to a midnight concert in Tromso. Edward Grieg is a Norwegian composer, so I am sure we will hear some of his music. And the last pic…we just can’t get away from Starbucks. 😅Read more

  • Our Seaday

    November 6, 2025 in Norway ⋅ ☁️ 43 °F

Today we slept late because we went to the midnight concert. Lovely! A soprano, an alto/tenor sax and a pianist/organist. No mic, just the hypnotic music of the musicians reverberating off the walls of the beautiful cathedral. It was drizzling all day and we had no port stops so we….wait for it…did laundry. Here are a few pics. Tomorrow, another slow day. We didn’t even need it. We had time to sit, chat and realize how blessed and grateful we are to share a life, in love and loved by God.Read more

  • Eating soup in a Marble Mine

    November 8, 2025 in Norway ⋅ ☁️ 50 °F

Last full day on the boat. There was a lot of downtime in the morning, but the afternoon was fun touring a Marble mine. After a little boat ride, we had some traditional Norwegian Soup and a film on marble production. Did you know that all the glossy paper in magazines is glossy because it is coated with marble.Read more

  • Polar Expeditions and a Christmas Market

    November 11, 2025 in Norway ⋅ ☁️ 45 °F

This was a highlight of the trip! We were expecting another big city, but we really loved Oslo! Started the day with a walk through a Sculpture Park and then on to the Fram Museum. The Fram is the name of a boat that explored the North and South Polar regions. Those guys were crazy brave and adventurous. We saw the Opera House which was designed to look like an iceberg atop the water. Next we got to go to a Christmas Market! One of my bucket list things. It opened on Saturday and even though we didn’t see a flake of snow on this trip, it was wonderful! The smells were fabulous. Now, I want to go to all the Christmas markets in Europe.Read more

  • Food, food and more food

    November 12, 2025 in Denmark ⋅ 🌬 52 °F

Today we went on a food tour of Copenhagen. The walk from our hotel was through a park. The parks are always filled with children here. So many kids here and they are always outside. Hot, cold, rain, snow, the Danes are outside. We arrived early and walked through a food market. It was wonderful. And then the food tour. They really do make good pastry here. Nothing like ours. They are much lighter and crisper. Afterwards, back to the hotel through a partially set up Christmas Market and checked in for tomorrow’s trip home. Tomorrow will be a 33 hour long day.Read more

  • Reflections of Scandinavia

    November 14, 2025 in the United States ⋅ 🌧 48 °F

We’re home, but the last thoughts of a wonderful trip and lasting impressions:
    - The Nordic people are tall.
    - There are kids everywhere!
    - Scandinavians live life outdoors.
    - Danish Pastry is really good.
    - They put Christmas lights up early because it’s dark there and they make people happy.
    - Danes love their bicycles!
    - I could live there.
    - Cultures differ…people are the same. We all love our kids and families and where we live and most of us are kind and want the best for each other. The world just got a little smaller. Travel is never a bad idea.

And with that, we’ll fade this one to black.
