We made it! We started of with a farewell ceremony this morning to our amazing crew of horsemen, chefs etc who would beat us every day to the next camp, while carrying our tents and gear! The food on this trek had been incredible. Better than some we've had in restaurants on our trip.
Starting out it was all downhill. Our first stop was at the Inca Quarry where we got to check out some tombs and see the size of the rocks they moved down to make to the local township below.
Once we reached town it was straight to the pub before we boarded our train to Machu Pichu town. Allan and I opted for the massages this arvo before crashing early for a good night's sleep.Baca lagi

Machu Pichu!

Today we made it! When we first arrived we were fully surround by clouds and totally gutted as we thought we weren't going to get to see Machu Pichu as it should be seen. Our guide was not fussed at all and told us "don't worry it will clear in about 2 minutes". I don't think a single one of us believed him.... but about 2 minutes later we could start to make out some shapes through the clouds. No more than 5 minutes later we discovered we were standing above Machu Pichu and could see it in all it's glory.Baca lagi

Lake Titicaca homestay

Today was a full on day. First we were up early to hop on a tricycle (very similar to a tuk tuk) to take us to the marina. This was fun but as we have come to expect with the chaos of Peruvian traffic we were very nearly hit by at least one vehicle.
Once safely at the Maria is was straight on board a private boat to head out to one of the floating islands on the lake. These islands are made of reeds and held in place with ropes tired to some sticks stuck in the lake floor about 3m down.
After a visit there we headed off to one of the lakes peninsulas to meet our homestay "Mumas" for some lunch and get put to work for the afternoon.
Each home was different but Allan and I ended up with what sounded like the most physical work, which included digging up potatoes with some quite ancient and dangerous looking tools. After some worthwhile digging it was off down the road to walk the sheep on leashes back home.
After a bit of a rest we headed down to the lakeside for some volleyball before being dressed in the local attire for dinner. We were very grateful for this as it was freezing an have us a few extra layers!
Then it was off to bed with plastic water bottles filled with hot water to keep us warm.Baca lagi

Lake Titicaca

This morning we said goodbye to our host "Mama" and boarded the boat again to go and explore Taquile Island.
As cold as the nights are here the days can be lovely. It was more walking at high altitude today but we were rewarded with some beautiful fresh Trout for lunch from the lake. After the 3 hour boat trip back to Puno we headed out for our last dinner with our wonderful Intrepid guide Patricia.
At the restaurant we were treated to several performances of local dances and music.Baca lagi

Today we had a real adventure and crossed the border into Blovia (where we sadly had to say goodbye to our intrepid leader). We headed straight to the city and checked into our lovely Hotel, which had a great location and beautiful view of the square ..... and San Pedro prison next door.
Soon after check in we headed out for a walk through the city were we checked out the local witches market. They had lots of lovely things to see here, including dead or dried llamas at varying ages of infantcy. Lucky our guide knew one of the stall holders so we could take a picture for you all to see the the beauty of this.
We discovered the best thing about Bolivia is how cheap everything is.Baca lagi

Today we had a better experience of Bolivia, and the city.
After officially finishing our intrepid tour and saying goodbye to some of our fellow travelers we spent the morning on a guided tour around the city highlights. We started off with a Gondola ride (the city equivalent to a subway) to the satellite city El Alto at 4100m and then back down again to 3100m.
We then headed off for a walk through a place called the Moon Valley. After checking out a look out we were back to the centre city for a look around the central square.
Following our guides recommendation we had lunch at the Bolivia equivalent to KFC and said goodbye to the rest of our fellow travelers before heading off to the airport for our flight to Uyuni.Baca lagi
