We went to Texel! Was a spontaneous Thursday adventure to the Dutch Wadden island off the coast of the Netherlands 🌴

On arrival (after the fancy ferry) we rented Dutch bikes and managed a solid 40km tour up one side of the island and through some of the main settlements. The headwind made for a challenging, but enjoyable bike ride. Felt good to smell the sea and be in nature.

Sail Amsterdam was also happening this week in the city, which is a maritime event held once every 5 years. Josh had the chance to check out the impressive ships which came through the harbour on display 🚢

Other activities have included hosting games nights, evening picnics with friends in the park, work days in Utrecht and decorating our apartment (safe to say after almost 2 months the space is feeling really cosy)!! 💐Les mer

Summer in the city

Summer is here! 🍈🌸 Josh is on University break so he’s been working lots during the day and going to jam session in the evening. I’ve been busy with work but balancing it nicely with lots of fun activities (like ceramic painting!) we’ve been enjoying dinner in the parks and long runs around the nearby lake ☺️☺️ first summer living central is proving to be a good one…Les mer

I spent the last week and a half travelling with mum and Benjamin. It was super nice to spend some time together after almost not having been around each other for about two years.
We visited all the grandparents and I made it down all the way to Heidelberg, where I left and came back to Amsterdam.

This past week, we had the joy of welcoming Antje and Benjamin to Amsterdam!! Our new apartment may not be fully furnished yet, but it proved more than enough to host 🥳

Over the days, we shared cozy moments…from homemade dinners (with Joshes friends) and many fun games nights, to long wanders that took us all around the city. We explored the bold graffiti of the STRAAT Museum, admired the stunning Rijksmuseum, wandered the quieter streets of De Pijp, history lessons at the Anne Frank Museum, ice creams in the sun and picnics by the canals…and they even took a day trip to Utrecht and also revisited Amstelhoek, our old suburb, for a dose of the Dutch countryside. Definitely a jam packed week of activities….😅😅

We’re so grateful they could come see the city we’re building our lives in. Sharing Amsterdam and the little life we’re making here was a joy 💛 and to see them again after 1 year (for me) and 2 years (for Josh) 🥰 lots of loveLes mer

Last weekend, between the chaos of packing up our lives in Amstelhoek and moving into the city, we somehow managed to make our way into Germany by night bus (about a 7 hour journey) arriving in Hamburg around 8:00am. We got to wander the quieter streets and get a feeling for the city, before meeting one of my friends at a cafe for brunch. She’s originally from Germany but I knew her in Amsterdam. It was nice to get a locals perspective on the city and to catchup 🥰

At around 2:00pm we met up with Elijah, Benjamin and Antje!! And eventually Simon. 4 out of 5 of the Derwahl brothers all together, I don’t think I’ve seen them all together since 2018 😅😅Les mer

Almost two years ago, we moved into the apartment in Amstelhoek, our little corner wrapped in nature and calmness away from the city. It was quiet, but our peaceful “new” home in the Netherlands. We enjoyed walks by the lake, long bike rides (most of the time) and the lovely neighbourhood that eased us into our life here…and now it’s finally time to move on.

It feels like we’ve been waiting forever for this next step, to be closer to the city and experience a new perspective… it’s all a little bittersweet. To add to that, we celebrate 7 years of being together 🥰

A little nostalgic, but mostly grateful and very excited for what the city will bring to us! We are in the process of moving everything to the new apartment, so things are busy busy 🐝

Busy weeks

It’s been awhile! and it’s been busy 😅😅
It’s too hard to write everything down so I will keep it short and sweet…

🔑 We got an apartment!!! After 2 months of searching and 9 viewings later we secured our next place, located in Amsterdam West.

🚐 Finnja and her friend came to Amsterdam! They had planned to explore the city, but we were able to host them for a nice pasta dinner.

☀️ Lots of sunny weather, even up to 29-31 degrees across the weekend. Ideal for our first swims of the season.Les mer

Birthday celebrations!

Birthday week! 🥳 on Friday it was my birthday…🎂 My first ever birthday away from my sisters & family. I must say, having a “solo” birthday makes it feel a lot more self centred than what I’m used to (celebrating all 3 of us) so that was a new feeling for me. Josh made an amazing tiramisu which we ate on the morning and then I spent the afternoon at work. In the evening we had dinner together which was really nice 😋 I was also able to video call with my family on Thursday night and also Friday morning, I was even there when Emily and Joanna blew out the birthday cake candles 😁😁 Feeling grateful for everything and excited for the year ahead 💛Les mer
