New day, new country: hello Singapore

    November 19, 2022 in Singapore ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

Bit of a heartbreaker leaving Aus yesterday. Not just because we’ve loved being there but it also meant the end of our trip.

Anyway leave we must, and after a mere 8 hours, and the most brutal plane aircon known to man, we emerged into the night in Singapore.

We’re picked up by the chattiest cab driver ever, who gave us more local intel than we could ever take in on a ‘good’ day, let alone on a hot night, after a long flight, and with with jet lag!

Singapore has changed A LOT since we were here about 20 years ago. There is bright neon everywhere and high rise buildings galore, with a myriad of windows twinkling down on us.

We arrive at our hotel on Marina Bay. The place is something else. The reception is on floor 4 and the atrium we step into (from the lift) is immense.

Like Alice and her mates in wonderland, we feel tiny and lost in such an alien environment. The place is teeming with folk dressed for an evening out, whilst we’re in shabby post flight mode, with stains from our in flight meals gently congealing into a permanent bond on our clothing.

The interior is impossible to describe - opulently tasteful? By now it’s 2am (Aussie time) and my brain is too tired to take it all in, but I do know I feel overwhelmed!

Our room is on the 11th floor and has a multicoloured neon outlook.

Hoping I sleep ok, I’m going to need it for tomorrow - we know Singapore is a full on destination….
