    Yusupov Palace

    June 11, 2019 in Russia ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

The Yusupovs were the second richest family in Russia and descendants still survive today in France. The killing of Rasputin is a famous story and depicted in the Palace because this is where it occurred.
The Palace is extraordinary and has a home theatre. Not like the ones we have as movies were not invented yet. This one has a stage, orchestra pit, box seats, loge seats, balcony and regular seating for about one hundred. The story is Mr Yusupov built it for his wife, who fancied herself as an actress. Plays were written just for her to star in. My guess is she wanted to play a poor girl from unfortunate circumstances as a way to ease her troubled mind.

No cameras were allowed inside, unless you paid an expensive charge. Our tour guide took the picture in the theatre.
