  • Krka hike to Skradin

    September 29, 2024 in Croatia ⋅ 🌬 19 °C

We opted for the hike from Krka national park to Skradin rather than the boat! Good choice made by us. The “hike” was a nice 4.5 km walk. We enjoyed a lunch on the boardwalk by the marina and of course gelato after.
Barb and I climbed up to the fortress over looking the town and met the boys for the bus ride back to Trogir.

  • Heading to Zagreb

    September 30, 2024 in Croatia ⋅ ☁️ 6 °C

Today’s is a bus trip to Zagreb. We bought our tickets a couple of days ago and when we boarded the bus in Trogir we were surprised to find that there was only 2 seats left on the bus. Right at the back. It’s a 4 1/2 hour ride to Zagreb, but no loud talking tour guide so at least that’s something. The road it good, the ride is smooth and when we arrive in Zagreb the sun is shining. We are quite mobile so we walked the half hour route to our accommodation, the Hotel Dubrovnik. Nice old hotel that has been renovated to a comfortable standard.Read more

  • Village of Rastoke

    October 2, 2024 in Croatia ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

It’s a rainy day in Zagreb and we have booked a tour to Plitvice National Park. It is a small group, only 8 of us. We all loaded into a van and drove for about 90 minutes to the town of
    Rastoke.
It is in the mountains, situated on islands at the confluence of two rivers that cascade over waterfalls. It is a historic village because of its tradition of watermills.
Had a cappuccino at a cool looking pub before leaving Rastoke.

  • Plitvice Lakes National Park

    October 2, 2024 in Croatia ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Another half hour in the van and we arrive at the Park. Our group consists of a couple from Australia who are older than us, a couple from Dallas who are younger than us and a mother with a 9 year old son. The walk is about 8 1/2 kms along groomed trails and boardwalk. Everyone is fit enough for this trek. We don’t go too fast as there is a lot to see.

The park is described as upper lakes and lower lakes with water running everywhere and waterfalls galore.

We enjoyed the walk, took many pictures and seemed to avoid crowds. The pictures will tell the tale.

  • Heading for home

    October 3, 2024 in Croatia ⋅ 🌧 13 °C

It is a long trip home as we will spend almost 18 hours in Frankfurt on the way back to Calgary. We have an airport hotel in Frankfurt to soften the length of stay and plan to have breakfast a the airport in the morning.

Everything went as planned this morning, caught the 6:30 shuttle, nice breakfast at the airport and even boarded on time. The bad news is Frankfurt terminal radar system went down so no planes can land or takeoff…1 hour delay……now radar working at 20% so now 3 hour delay sitting at the gate😩

Worked out better than we thought; just under 2 hour delay which we made up about an hour and arrived back in Calgary 1 hour late.

Home. Great holiday but busy. We had fun, cycled hard, saw some beautiful things, had fun, great time with Mike and Barb, had more fun.
The Croatians were very welcoming to us. Never once were we hurried out of a restaurant, hotel staff were friendly and accommodating, our tour guides seemed knowledgeable and entertaining. We would recommend it highly as a place to visit. We are not sure when we will be back there, but maybe someday.

  • Fooluru

    February 24, 2025 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 38 °C

Another great photo stop, Fooluru (Mount Conner) looks like Uluru but is miles from it. Across the road and up a red sand dune is a great view of a salt lake and Fooluru itself!
