This was our official first stop on today’s tour. It is the Victoria State war Memorial. The soldiers pictured are practicing for for the commemoration that will take place tomorrow.
Melbourne beach

We had lunch in this neighborhood and picked up some fruit for tomorrow’s bus ride. The market was huge and well attended.

Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne

This is probably the first of many churches/ Cathedrals to visit. It is large not too decadanct.
The grounds are pretty and well cared for.

Epic bus ride

Anglesea, Lorne, Separation creek, Wye river, Apologies bay are places that sound like they should be in NewfoundLand but are on the Great Ocean Road south of Melbourne. The destination is The 12Les mer
Twelve Apostles

So this is what we rode on the bus for 8 hours on a windy, twisty, queezy tummy ocean road to see the 12 Apostles. The “stacks” as they are called. We saw only 8 not 12….

Shipwreck walk

As the story goes a ship, the Loch Ard crashed into the rocks May 1878. 2 survived; climbed the cliffs and made there way to a farmhouse for help. It is amazing anyone could survive these waters.

The new parliament building has been open since 1988. Our tour gave us the opportunity to see representatives chamber and the senate chamber. The government functions much like Canadian parliamentLes mer

Another early morning, brekkie & luggage loaded by 8 am. Flight to Cairns with a quick stop in Brisbane was good but makes for a long day.

The Great Barrier Reef

A planned boat excursion to the Great Barrier Reef is on today’s agenda. Our group boarded a good sized vessel about 8:30 and together with some other tourists we motored out of Cairns harbour.Les mer

Tom & I had an amazing time snorkelling. The water was murky at times; due to heavy rains but for most of the time it was great. The water was warm and we only saw friendly jellyfish!
Train to Kuranda
