    Road Trip

    April 1 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 70 °F

Leaving late morning we headed East on I-10. We exited in Ocean Springs MS and took a little tour of the town, finding the house where Catherine lived for a whole three weeks. Definitely a town to return to, to walk and visit the little shops. We drove to the beach and through the harbor where all the shrimp boats were docked. We had dinner at Hartz Chicken and stayed on the backroads into Alabama. We ended up on Dauphine Island where we went to the beach and saw some major surf. 72 degrees out, but people were in the water. Several oil rigs along the coast. I had never been so close to a rig before. Seeing signs to a ferry we decided to follow the signs, not knowing where to get the ferry, nor where it went. But choosing not to wait 90 minutes until the next available ferry, we rode back to I-10 through Mobile and took the back roads to Foley where we found some Outlet stores and some Clark shoes that screamed “buy me”. How could I resist? We saw the coolest Diner along the way. We drove along the coast through Gulf Shores where Spring Break was in full swing and settled in at a very nice Fairfield Inn in Orange Beach for the night, after walking to a really yummy ice cream shop across from the hotel. We really enjoyed looking at the variety of homes, the tree lined streets and the gulf waters.Read more

    Day two

    April 2 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 73 °F

So we are in the road and we drove. We went to Florida and drove off the beaten track through Perdido Key, downtown Pensacola with welcoming umbrellas like we have in Slidell (and I saw in the Brussels airport) Pensacola Beach and Gulf Breeze. We used my Senior Pass to visit the Gulf Islands National Seashore and really enjoyed the beach waves and beautiful white sand. Then enjoyed lunch, lobster crab cakes and shrimp salad at The Shack in Ft Walton Beach. In Destin we found The Commons where I found Southern Living store. In Sandestin we went to the Silver Sands outlets where the Swarovski store got me! Visiting Seaside and Watercolor brought us a huge surprise where it was inundated by Spring Break. So happy when we found Pizza by the Sea right next to a Ben & Jerry’s shop! A quick stop to sleep at Evoke, an IHG property.Read more
