    Landed in Seattle

    We landed in Seattle at 1219pm. It was a cramped flight. Erik and I both had middle seats, but both in the first rows on either side of the plane. He slept some (or tried to). He had some older ladies who talked up a storm while he tried to sleep. Then he read some magazines. I sat between a nice lady and a gentleman. They didn't speak. I had my headphones on listening to The Women. Ugh, this book is devastating. Got some pictures on the way in of what I believe is Mt Rainier and some fog in some of the valleys close by it. Dad and Stepmom picked us up in a nice Ford Navigator. Nicest vehicle I've ever been in.Read more

    Pikes Place Market

    We walked along Pikes Place Market. Ate some samples: smoked salmon, bread with different types of balsamic vinegar (that chocolate one!!), chocolate covered cherry, and some jerky. Erik and I put some gum on the gum wall. We walked a lot. We went to a map store which was honestly pretty dang cool. I dropped a book on my foot. Whoops. I made Erik take the stairs while my dad and stepmom took the elevator 😀 he loves me. Haha. Time for dinner!Read more

    Dinner at Feast

    OMG. This place is absolutely insane. This is a Chinese buffet on steroids on top of steroids with a cherry on top. The video speaks for itself. We were stuffed after all of this food. I bowed our first, then Erik, then dad, then stepmom.Read more

    On the Boat

    We made it to the boat. Dad and Sonia took the rental back this morning. Erik and I slept in a little. Sleeping was rough. Erik didn't take his pills and love my parents but man oh man do they snore 😂 love ya'll. Put some earplugs in and that helped a little bit. Apparently I snored, also... whoops. Showered and left on the shuttle to the pier. We had some conversations with some people that were heading to the Oceanic cruise which is docked right next to us. We arrived and boarded without issue. I swear they check your boarding pass 20 times. Security was a joke but it's better than nothing I guess. Probably just looking for firearms. We went to our muster stations and sat down to eat.Read more

    Photos just for fun

    Walked around the boat to go get a photo of the Space Needle. Not a lot of people and a whole lot of those clam shell bed things. Pretty fun. The jogging track is tiny though. It takes 16.7 laps to make one mile. Yikes. Still saw some people boarding but I imagine we will take off soon.Read more

    Dinner

    We ate dinner. I had parpadelle lamb, a Cobb salad and some duck rolls. For dessert I had a cheesecake with strawberry sauce. Erik had braised ribs, a Cobb salad, shrimp cocktails and a molten lava chocolate cake with ice cream. Delicious! All of it. The portions were smaller than we remembered but our gummies are grateful. Service was subpar. We didn't get a drink for at least 20 minutes after we sat down. Then, you had to track someone down to get a refill. Hopefully it's just because they had some rotations in shifts.

    The ship left the dock at 6pm. We were seated for dinner when it took off.

    Sonia and Dad went to see a comedy show. Erik and I went back to the room to watch the sunset, look through the binoculars and then lay on the bed. The balcony is exactly what I had hoped for. It was even pretty dang cold so I am glad our room guy, Ari (from Bali, Indonesia), brought us some blankets.    Read more

    After quite a nice nap, we all went to the Welcome Aboard Show. It was a nice little show. Then we went up to Lido and Erik had pizza while I ate an ice cream. Then we came back to the room, set the clock back an hour and went to bed. 😴Read more

    French toast

    Breakfast

    We woke up around 7am this morning. We had the door cracked for most of the night but I shut it around 3am because the wind was whistling. We slept really well! We are not as far off land as we expected but it is about 2500m deep.
    We met the parentals at 730am for our seaday brunch. Erik and I both had French toast, and cheese danishes. I had some bacon and he had some oatmeal. Delicious! He also ate my dad's banana cream pie because it came out late after my dad had left to go kill his lungs.    Read more

    We made orchid leis. They smell great. So grateful for this experience. Rather easy. Orchids, lei needles, and string. Amazing. Those needles were $10 each. Wild.

    Dog?

    Trivia, Wildlife 101 Lecture & Dolphins

    We stayed for Hawaiian trivia. Erik and I did not do so well. Parentals cheated 😂 then we went to the lecture on wildlife 101. It was very informative. Shannon is the naturalist on board and she is quite interesting. What a fun job. Then we came back to the room. Found our cool towel animal and went out on the balcony and luckily saw some dolphins!Read more

    Magician & Movie

    September 19, 2025, North Pacific Ocean ⋅ ☀️ 66 °F

    We went to the theater to watch Glen Foster. He is a comedy magician. He was fairly good. He did some rope tricks, a puzzle trick, a straight jacket trick, a trick where our cruise director appeared in an empty tent. He also did a ring trick with a young girl from the audience. He spoke about serious things including an acronym DODAAT. Do One Day At A Time. His mom died of breast cancer so he did a little piece on that which was great because it reminded us of Madre.

    After, we went to the room to grab blankets and sat out on the upper deck waiting for the 930pm showing of Interstellar. It was so dang cold out there, and the waves caused the pool to shift the water so much that it erupted onto us a few times. We enjoyed the movie and then hobbled our way back to our room. We read for a short while and fell asleep.    Read more

    Good morning Day 3

    Good morning! We slept in until 715am and rushed to get ready thinking breakfast was at 730am. Then I opened my Carnival app and seaday brunch starts at 8am today. Erik is not so happy 😂 he did wake up early to take a sunrise picture though. The waves last night were a bit much for me. Not in terms of seasickness but the massive rocking from side to side just makes my mind wander about the worst possible situations. Erik said he woke up 14 times to pee in the middle of the night. Poor guy. The waves are much calmer this morning but they're definitely bigger this far out. Not frighteningly big, but respectable big.Read more

    I could have skipped breakfast and been okay but we went to seaday brunch. I had salmon lox, a croissant and a parfait. Erik had an omelet, hash browns, a Danish, some cookies and he ate part of my salmon. We had a good talk and discussed what we are going to do in Hawaii.Read more

    Ukulele Lesson

    Whale Lecture

    Shannon, our naturalist on board, gave a lecture on whales. She is quite an enthusiastic presenter. As tired as I was, every aspect of her lecture was entertaining and educational. We learned the difference between toothed and bhaleen whales. She also taught us where some of the whales migratory patterns are.

    The weather outside was foggy before the lecture and now it's lifted. We are still rocking back and forth but that's okay. I'm much more comfortable rocking when it's light outside and I can see that we are okay.    Read more

    Nap, Photos and Dinner

    Erik and I went back to the room and had a very nice and very long nap. It was perfect. Then we showered and made ourselves pretty / handsome for elegant night. We had photos taken at a few different spots and then headed to dinner.

    I ordered calamari and a strawberry and chia seed soup, lobster tail, prime rib, creme brulee and panna cotta. Erik ordered shrimp cocktail, strawberry and chia seed soup, lobster tail, prime rib and the creme brulee. Absolutely delicious!    Read more

    This evening the show of the night, Flick, was cancelled due to the boats rocking. Instead they had Dustin Dean who is a mentalist. I was quite impressed as I had never seen a mentalist in person. He guessed cards that three people chose out of a deck, he guessed interesting things about people of which they had written down and he did not read, and he predicted a number that a lady would come up with, which just so happened to look like "carnival" upside down. Wild.

    After his show, Erik and I went to our cabin to read. Parentals went to the casino and Sonia won money while my dad lost some

    We all met at the comedy club at 915pm to watch Derrick Tennent. He is half paralyzed and he made part of his show about this. He is a motivational speaker as well. He was funny and resembled Michael Keaton.

    We all turned in for the evening. We set our clocks back another hour before bed.    Read more

    Good Morning Day 4

    Good morning! We slept for about 9 hours with the time moving back an hour. It was a wonderful evening. We kept the shades open and woke up to the alarm but the sun shining in and the waves being as calm as they were made for a comfortable wake-up.

    We met the parentals at 730am for breakfast. I had a yogurt, French toast and hash browns. Erik had oatmeal, a grapefruit, corned beef hash and pork sausage. We didn't have lunch yesterday but I am somehow still kind of on the edge of being full.    Read more

    Hawaiian Language

    Hawaiian language class was great. I had no idea that they weren't allowed to speak Hawaiian for almost 100 years. I love learning all of this so that I can understand my Hawaiian friend Jaime 😂

    Aloha = face breath
    May day = lei day (wear color of the island and lei of island)
    Pipi = cow / beef
    Pupu = hors d'ouvres / shells
    Lua = toilet
    Hauli = no breath / foreigner
    If you pick the lehua flower, it is supposed to rain.
    Kane = man
    Wahine = woman
    Highway Inn - authentic Hawaiian food in Honolulu
    Poi - make fresh, rice or potatoes, does not spoil. Elders like it sour.
    Pigeon English - a legal language in Hawaii

    Events of the day

    We went to drop laundry at the parentals but they weren't in their cabin, like they said they would be. Tsk tsk.

    We went to the lecture on plants at 1030 by Shannon, the Naturalist. She is such a great speaker. Many of Hawaii's plants are not endemic, they were brought in and introduced by other means.

    We stayed in the theater for the Welcome Aboard Show of which the cruise director gave information on the excursions for the ports. They gave away some gifts. We didn't win. We were one number off or two or three.

    After that, we went to the art auction. Oh boy is that place overpriced and just straight strange. People were buying animation pieces... The Flintstones, the Pink Panther, DC characters. Weird. They had an artist who called himself KRe8. Also weird. We had some champagne and then left.

    Now, we sit on the balcony. It's warmer out today. The water is very deep blue and we are watching random things go by: suitcase, 2 buoys, what looked like a burlap sack probably filled with drugs, and a florescent box.    Read more
