    Good Morning Day 8

    9月25日, North Pacific Ocean ⋅ 🌙 79 °F

We slept in today. No breakfast for us. I'm not feeling too hot so sleeping in was nice.

This morning's information: 4730 meters for our sea depth, traveled a total of 2655 nautical miles. We are on a heading of 165 degrees at a whopping 20.4 knots.

I'm pretty hungry now. We left our room and saw our Naturalist leaving her interior cabin. She is right across the hall from us. We went to to Lido and grabbed a hot chocolate for me and a coffee for hubs. He also grabbed some fruit and baked goodies.

    Naturalist Lecture

    9月25日, North Pacific Ocean ⋅ 🌙 79 °F

We went to the 1030am Naturalist Lecture where she talked about topography of the Polynesian islands. There is a bird in New Caledonia called the Ragi which looked funky. Probably elusive though and won't see it. She talked about weather patterns in the islands and how the islands were formed, be it by volcanoes or reefs. She also talked about the smallest country (the name has already left my brain) and how they fight for climate change because their land is literally just a small strip of land with water on either side and their land is slowly sinking back into the water as a result of climate impacts. I am always impressed with her lectures.

We walked Smom to the aft of the ship and then came forward again to go back to our cabin.

    Slept the Sickness Away

    9月25日, North Pacific Ocean ⋅ ☁️ 79 °F

Today has been uneventful for me. I went to one thing (the lecture), skipped all meals, and now am sitting quite hungry but very well rested. I am hoping sleeping all day will have helped to rid me of whatever I am sick from. I have a small cough right now and it's still too early to tell but hopefully my ears (both) are unclogged and the congestion in my head is gone.

*5 min later after waking Erik up...

It's almost gone. Voice is super hoarse. I'm hungry though so that's good! It can only get better, right?

Erik went up to the Lido deck and found some BBQ to eat at some point (by himself 😢) while he read 2 magazines. He is the perfect caretaker. He made sure I had water and he got my medicine ready (DayQuil). He turned the fan on for me. He is the best.

He also found 2 more ducks. He is an exceptional duck finder.

I think we might have traveled through a squall (storm at sea) because our balcony is kind of wet and it looks pretty squall-like behind us. The seas are not as calm right now but still not too terrible.

Now to wake up the loves and tell him it's dinner time!

    Dinner

    9月25日, North Pacific Ocean ⋅ ☁️ 79 °F

Erik found another duck on the way here. A sparkly one.

    For dinner:

Erik - shrimp cocktail and an apricot chicken thing that he said was not very apricot-y. He ordered prime rib for dinner and Boston cream pie and chocolate melting cake for dessert.

Kristine - lobster bisque and a small salad. Prime rib and some kind of penne. Then Boston cream pie and a mango dessert.

The water is a little stirred up tonight, likely from the squalls that surround us. It rained earlier so we definitely passed through one. Clouds are low and waves are bigger than they have been in a while. Wish our carnival app told us how big the waves are.

Consuela Ivy and Late Night Snack

    9月25日, North Pacific Ocean ⋅ ⛅ 81 °F

We went to the 730pm show of Consuela Ivy. She is a soulful singer. Her mic was on the loud side but her vibrado and her runs were quite nice. Erik did not enjoy her as much. My dad looked like he was star struck; big smile on his face at the end. He clearly loved her music. She sang Dolly Parton, The Temptations, and Gladys Knight to name a few. Outside of saying "love, love, love" 100 times, it was a nice relaxing show.

The humidity outside is definitely lingering. The boat keeps slapping into the waves.

Erik and I went to our cabin to read for a little bit after the show. Then we went up to the Lido so he could eat a grilled cheese sandwich and we could both have a little ice cream. Not a lot of people out right now. This ship has a lot of older people on it and I'm certain they went to bed early tonight.

Tomorrow breakfast is at 8am! We get to sleep in!!!

    Hello Day 9

    9月26日, North Pacific Ocean ⋅ 🌧 82 °F

I slept like a rock last night. Erik had to get up to use the bathroom 3 times. We are well hydrated on this trip. The bed is very comfortable. It must be the mattress topper.

    This morning's stats:
    5120 sea depth
    3088 nautical miles traversed
    165 degree heading
    Traveling at 20.2 knots

It is foggy and cloudy this morning. A little bit of drizzle, as well.

When I took a photo of where we were on the ship map, there was a tiny little blip called "house". I wonder whose house it is.

    Time for breakfast!

    Omelet, hash browns and sausage

    Brekkie

    9月26日, North Pacific Ocean ⋅ ☁️ 82 °F

Erik found another duck on the trek to the aft of the boat for breakfast. Always duck hunt with him. He has an eagle eye. This one was tiny and clear.

For breakfast I ordered an omelet, hash browns and sausage. Erik ordered his oatmeal, grapefruit and melon, and French toast. Erik ordered honey for his grapefruit and thought he had received it but instead had put syrup on his grapefruit 😆 he asked for a new one.

I waited a good 30 minutes before I ever received my hot chocolate. I guess they felt I didn't need one today. It's not even really busy here but the servers are a bit on the slow side this AM. They must all be sleepy. I won't complain. These servers usually spend months away from their families and they do not always get to get off the ship with the rest of us.

We are seated in the corner next to the window. I love eating while watching the water. There are squalls all over the place out here. It is pretty warm out, with the nice cool drizzle. I could stay in bed and read all day in this weather, but luckily I get to watch some entertainment, also!

Smom and I are now professional ukulele players. The Hawaiian ukulele class was good but we didn't really learn how to play. In this one, we truly learned how to play 4 chords: C, A Minor, F, and G7. We each had our own ukulele and we played so many songs.もっと詳しく

    Coral Lecture

    9月26日, North Pacific Ocean ⋅ ⛅ 81 °F

Today, Shannon gave a lecture on corals. Corals are an animal, in case you did not realize it. I did not. The bleaching of corals also does not mean the coral is dead, but it is dying. They are not dead until they turn black. I love watching her lectures. Her slides are full of extensive information on the topic and yet they aren't overwhelming or distracting. She clearly knows her topic, and she does a good mix of still photos and animations or videos. Anywho, save the corals. Do not touch them. Touching them, kills the polyps.

After the lecture we all went to the creativity at sea to pick up some Alaska keychain items. Looks like they had a plethora from their Alaska cruises which is why they gave them out to us.

Time to sit on the balcony and read.

    Captain's Brief

    9月26日, North Pacific Ocean ⋅ 🌙 82 °F

The captain gave a brief during this cruise. I was thoroughly impressed by it. I now know how the bridge operates and who they usually have on the bridge. He also did a Q&a session and someone asked him what were the largest waves he had been in, which was about 2018 when he was on a Carnival ship in almost 40 ft waves between Brisbane and Sydney, AU. Just wow! He told us a little about each of the ports and the distances between them.

Not all captains will give a brief during the cruise so I feel very blessed to have had him come on down and talk to all of us. He did a great job. His English was a little rough but he did his best to get from his native tongue (I believe he is Italian) to English. He was also kind of funny.

It amazes me how much planning goes into these cruises but then again, they have so many people of different nationalities, they almost have to do all they can to make it safe.

I also really thought it was neat that he talked about their training facility in the Netherlands which sees about 30,000 people a year.

    Show

    9月26日, North Pacific Ocean ⋅ ☀️ 81 °F

They canceled tonight's show probably due to the rocking of the boat and instead we watched a magician Mark Bennick. He was moderately funny and his magic was quite impressive. He did some card tricks where people guessed a card and he had it on his umbrella. Then he had people turn to a random page in some books and he guessed the first word on the page. It was interesting.

Then back to the room to get laundry to the parentals and more reading.

    Day 10

    9月27日, North Pacific Ocean ⋅ 🌙 79 °F

Good morning! I slept hard. This bed is soft.

I woke up at around 5 something and the sunrise was spectacular, but I was so comfortable I decided to go back to sleep instead of snap a picture. Sorry!

Today we are at 4850 meters in depth. We have traveled a total of 3573 nautical miles. Currently we are on a 170 degree heading going 20 knots.

Erik didn't want to wake today and I said I'd do breakfast without him but the man loves food and me so he didn't want to miss it.

We decided to skip it and go to the cabin. Read and the best nap ever .

Made it to the next event and found out Smom won big in the casino! Woohoo!

    On the equator

    King Neptune Crossing

    9月27日, South Pacific Ocean ⋅ 🌙 77 °F

We went back to the cabin to read and then we made our way to a Studio VIP performance but we only stayed about 15 minutes. For one, the singers do not really jibe well. Either that or I am not a fan of one of their voices. We decided to go grab seats for the King Neptune ceremony.

Boy did we underestimate how many others would be doing the same thing. We barely found a spot to sit where we could somewhat see what was going on. Erik found a small table that we could both sit on. Well .. sit is a stretch. Then he went and grabbed some fruits and pizza. After half the pizza was gone, he saw the couch behind us was empty so he pulled it over. We had some people from New Zealand chat us up for a bit before the show started.

At 3:49pm, we crossed the equator. This is my first time ever crossing it. Erik has crossed it before.

What a fun experience. The crew did a whole ceremony up top on the Lido deck where members of the crew had eggs broken on their heads, one got his head clipped (not buzzed), and then they were put in an inflatable pool and juices, soups, and noodles were thrown on them. Even a squid!

After the ceremony, Erik and I went back to the cabin to get a photo right when we crossed the equator. We are official! The captain even blew the horn. Pretty cool experience.

    Dinner Time

    9月27日, South Pacific Ocean ⋅ ⛅ 77 °F

Dinner time South of the Equator:

Erik: shrimp cocktail, pork posole, manicotti, apple pie and chocolate melting cake

Me: tuna tartare, shrimp cocktail, manicotti, Thai salad, matcha cake, and chocolate melting cake

Every day, I want less and less food... Yet, come dinner time I feel the urge to eat because I do not want to miss out on trying something. Shameful.

The manicotti tonight was okay. I make way better manicotti. The Thai salad was unbelievable! The matcha cake was gross and the chocolate melting cake was delectable with the peanut butter and some milk to wash it down.

The children had their chicken nuggets with their coloring books. It's so hard to travel with kids 😆 really though, the parentals didn't like any of the food on the menu so they opted for the kids menu.

    Hello Halfway

    9月28日, South Pacific Ocean ⋅ 🌙 79 °F

This morning is day 11. Halfway done with the cruise itself. I miss my babies (not babies anymore). I wish we could all be on this cruise forever. It's so much fun and I love the idea of not having to decide dinner every night 😆 or having to clean anything.

This morning we are in 5189 meters of ocean. We have traveled 4380 nautical miles. Currently we are going 179 degrees at 17.7 knots.

It is quite warm outside. Slightly humid but not too terrible.

Thank goodness for the parentals and their laundry service or I'd be wearing a sarong every day and washing it in my sink!

Erik and I have a really good rhythm to our sea days. We wake up for breakfast. Go to the 9am culture class, go to the 1030am naturalist lecture. Read on the balcony. Take a nap. Go to dinner. Watch the 730pm show. Go back to the cabin and read and/or watch a movie. Go to sleep. What a lazy life we lead, but we are waking up way before we did back in AZ.

    Angry Over Shells

    9月28日, South Pacific Ocean ⋅ 🌙 79 °F

Smom and I showed up to the shell making class and the Tahitian women running the class said they only had enough shells for 30 people. You have no idea how many women were upset. I mean 30 people is a bit small for what you expect will show (everyone likes free stuff!). Luckily no one got into a fight and Smom and I were part of the 30 that were able to make shell bracelets. Honestly though, they had enough for way more than 30. Maybe 100. There were a ton of shells left over.

The class ended early so Erik and I went to our usual routine to sit on the balcony and read. Smom and Dad went to the cha-ching to get richer.

    Wildlife Crime

    9月28日, South Pacific Ocean ⋅ 🌙 79 °F

Today, Shannon spoke about wildlife crime. The king pins, sellers, buyers, and intermediaries. Buying the ivory earrings and saying "well, I didn't kill it" doesn't erase the demand that comes along with the poaching of the elephant tusks. To ease wildlife crime, specifically in exploitation, you need to minimize the demand. Shark fins are a sign of wealth in some areas... Shark fin soup. First, that sounds disgusting. Second, who the heck thought that was a delicious idea? Does one shark fin taste better than another. 🤢 Erik made a valid point that the brief should have hit on what we can do as a society to stop the demand. Policies only go so far. Yes, policies help, especially when it comes to criminal punishment, but this becomes an illegal trade to skirt around those policies. Just a rather interesting topic..もっと詳しく

    Lunch, Movie and Nap

    9月28日, South Pacific Ocean ⋅ ☀️ 79 °F

After the military appreciation, we went to the Lido deck to find something small to eat. Can you ever really eat small on this ship? I came away with a huge bowl of salad. Mmmm. Erik had a plate full of BBQ. I got him a plate of some cakes, cookies and lots of fruit. Then we watched some movie with Mr. Bean and fell asleep on the bed under our fuzzy blue blankets while watching the ocean go by.もっと詳しく

    Military Appreciation

    9月28日, South Pacific Ocean ⋅ ☀️ 79 °F

In typical Carnival fashion, they hosted a military appreciation event. They thank all branches of the military, we even had one space force guy. Then they thanked the Aussie branches. Dad always gets so happy during these events so we go really to support him. Erik and I don't like the praise but I like to throw that support at my dad.もっと詳しく
