Flick Show

Dad left dinner early because he wasn't feeling well. Sonia, Erik and I finished our meal and went to go check out the show Flick. It was really very good. The cast sang and danced to older movies like the Bodyguard, 007, Footloose, Star Wars, Rocky, Titanic (yikes), and Willy Wonka. With the lights, it was pretty spectacular. The singing wasn't the best but I am sure I couldn't do it while dancing and a boat moving, though, the boat didn't move nearly as often tonight. They had one part where one of the ladies sang Skyfall while a cloth danced around them, being lifted into the air by a bunch of fans. It was probably the coolest part of the show.

After the show, Sonia went back to check on Dad and Erik and I went duck hunting, I mean walking around the ship. So far he has found 3 ducks and I've found 2. He is winning, to include finding the biggest and smallest ducks. I found the first duck though so 😝

Now, we are back in the room. We contemplated hitting up the hot tub or playing ping pong but it's rather warm out tonight and a little dark for ping pong. Another time.Les mer

I think we both slept like babies last night
We fell asleep at about 1130pm. We awoke at 730am to the alarm. Erik did not want to get out of bed this morning. I sat on the balcony whilst he got himself ready to go. The water is fairly calm. For being so far out in the middle of the Pacific, the water is incredibly peaceful and relaxing. I was excited but had reservations about this far from land. I am finally getting used to it and becoming less fearful. It is beautiful out here.

We are traveling at almost 18 knots and the sea depth is 5710 meters. We have traveled 1536 nautical miles so far. We have stuck to a relatively consistent course of 220 degrees.Les mer

Breakfast was good, as always. I had avocado toast with poached eggs and bacon. Erik had oatmeal, granola and a brulee grapefruit.

After breakfast we went to the sarong tying class. Wild how many pieces of clothing you can create with one sarong. Men and women.
They also answered some questions about their facial tattoos and tattoos in general.Les mer

Ocean lecture and nap

We all went to the lecture on the ocean. Shannon once again does a phenomenal job of getting you to want to jump into nature conservation. She spoke of how big our oceans are, what marine protected parts of the ocean look like, as well as the breaking news of yesterday in which we received our 60th nation to agree to the UN Ocean Conversation act, enabling it to be ratified into international law. Very cool. She spoke about keeping the oceans clean, using less plastic, as well.

Once complete, we went back to our room and sat on the balcony, enjoying the sounds of the ocean while we read and ate salt water Taffy and drank a squirt. The. We both became tired and went to take a nap.

As I sit here and write this, it is now my time to go meet Sonia for tea time.Les mer

Tea time

My Smom and I went to the 3pm tea time. We had Lipton tea (hot), a cucumber sandwich, a smoked salmon piece, and desserts aplenty (lemon cake, chocolate cake, macaroon, fruit tart, and scone). We had this older lady sitting next to Sonia who was quite opinionated. Very much so. She was slightly irritating at first because she complained about everything but she actually grew on me after a while. She was much older and we made small talk amongst our table. At the end of the tea time, we said goodbye and I went back to my room to check on Erik.

I found a duck on the way back. Actually, Smom walked right by it. It was on the handrail that she truly walked right past. I grabbed it and went to the Galleria to see if I could get a charm at the 4pm timeslot. Apparently the cruise planner had the time wrong so they didn't have anymore.

Then I went back to the room, took some video of some flying fish (they are so small I hope you can see them), and then took a shower preparing for dinner. Tonight it's just Erik and I because Smom and Dad are going to a fancy diamond dinner.Les mer

Melissa McLaughlin was the entertainment of the evening. Wow. She was incredible. She sang Tina Turner, Sam Smith, Christina Aguilera, Patsy Cline and Mariah Carey. I was highly impressed. Her vocal range was exquisite. She has the range that I wish I had.

After watching her show, I got a picture with her and Erik was able to get one with one of the mentalists that we saw a few days ago.

The parentals went to the casino and we walked around, sat on Serenity for a hot second before the crew made us get off the clam chairs (they were putting them away for the night). Then Erik grabbed a hot dog and chips and we both grabbed a drink and headed back to the room to do some more reading. We are nerds with our reading material but I love it.

We have one more sea day before we arrive in Hawaii. I cannot believe how quickly this cruise is going. Time goes back another hour tonight.Les mer

Good Morning Day 6

I woke up early this morning because I went to bed early. I have a bit of a sore throat. It's not terrible and I do not have a fever. Just hurts to swallow. Hopefully it'll go away soon. It's been about 2.5 days of it so far.

Erik is fun grumpy. He didn't want to wake up. Not sure what time he went to bed.

This morning we are at 5470 meters depth. Traveling 18.1 knots at 217 degrees for our course. We have traveled a total of 1994 nautical miles. Honolulu looks close on the map but when you look to the front of the ship you still can't see land. It's fairly warm out for 7am.

Hard to believe tomorrow we will have traveled half of the Pacific and we will be in Hawaii. On. Land. What? This cruise is going by super fast.Les mer

Met for breakfast at 730am. I had eggs benedict and Erik had an omelet with corn beef hash. It was nice because we had our dinner servers for breakfast: Angelina and Joseph. Love them!

At the end of dinner, Erik went to a table with mostly Aussies and he asked them for help on what we should do in Australia. They recommended going North along the coast and definitely seeing the Blue Mountains.Les mer

Hawaiian Appreciation

We went to the Hawaiian Appreciation Day. They keep bringing up Chief of War, which is on Apple TV. This is a must watch.

We watched them sing and hula. Such a beautiful culture.

Apparently Hawaiian is not mandated in school. You also do not have to be Hawaiian to attend a Hawaiian Immersion School. Sad, actually.

Our Hawaiian Ambassadors are Temihana and Ku'ulie.

To go to Nii'hau, you have to live there or be invited. The Robinson family bought the island for $10,000 and preserve the island for pure Hawaiians. You can't drink or smoke on the island. Nii'hau shells can be thousands of dollars.Les mer

Lecture and Nap

Today, Shannon went over birds and how Hawaii's birds are going extinct or endangered due to many reasons but one being mosquitos. Then she taught us about IIT. I don't recall what it is called but it basically means that Hawaii is introducing male mosquitos of a different type than what is destroying birds via the avian flu. Male mosquitos don't bite but also these male mosquitos and the female mosquito wiping out birds right now can't have babies together which helps to kill off mosquitos.

After the lecture, Erik and I went to the parentals to get our laundry (thank you to them for letting us use their laundry service). Then we went back to our room, read for a while on the balcony, and then took a nice nap.Les mer

Polynesian Food Culture & Dinner

We went to a brief on Polynesian culture. Basically Hawaiian food is made up of a fusion of Hawaiian, Chinese, Korean, Filipino, and Puerto Rican. The immigrants of those countries would come over to work in plantations and they brought their cultural cuisines with them.

Erik and I went back to the room for half an hour. I had to take a hit of an inhaler because it was getting increasingly hard to breathe. My throat has been sore but when we went back to the room, I took a naproxen (Erik forced me haha 😘😝). It was a good decision!

Then, we went to dinner.
I ordered mozzarella sticks, and a crab cake for appetizers. Steak and shrimp and Caesar salad for entree. And red velvet cake in addition to chocolate tres leches.

We went to the 730pm showing of Family Feud. Smom and Dad brought us white russians. The show was good. One family dominated the other but didn't win the final showdown. They were off by 50 points.

Navy Exchange Stop

Oh father. He is such a military retiree. Love him. We stopped at the Navy Exchange. I bought some Macadamia Nuts and a shot glass for my collection. Then Erik and I bought ourselves some boba smoothies. I got the Caramel Mocha and he got the Piña Colada. Saw a few chickens on the way here. I will get my touristy chicken photo (sadly, I did not see any after the few I spotted). I believe after this we are going to a swap meet or flea market of some sort to find some souvenirs for our babies (not so baby).

Lots of lots of homeless people around here. Not a bad place to be homeless but man it's a lot.Les mer

USS Missouri

I highly recommend visiting Pearl Harbor if you ever get the chance. We weren't able to go to the USS Arizona but we did go to the USS Missouri and we learned a wealth of new information on it. There was a Kamikaze attack in which no US personnel were killed. The Kamikaze pilot died and the USS Missouri crew gave him a proper Japanese burial, even though he was trying to kill them. We did the guided tour and then walked through the crew quarters and onto the bridge. I took a TON of photos, my phone died and then Erik took the rest of the photos. This app only lets me add 25 pictures, though.Les mer

Hawaii Pot Shabushabu House. Why are you so good? At first, we (everyone but Smom) weren't sure about cooking our own meals because we were so hungry but this was worth the stop! Outside of the guy out front with his butt literally hanging out (he was homeless and clearly on something), this place was fantastic. A bit expensive but it's all you can eat and they have crab! Drinks were $1. The meal itself was pricey but for all you can eat... Again, worth it. We made our own sauces and I really loved mine. Let me try to recreate this: garlic, green onion, oyster sauce, house special sauce, soy sauce, and peanuts. I think that was everything. I need to roll out of here after all this food. Oh, and my base was miso soup while my meat was beef.Les mer

Touristy Stuff

Dad and Smom went to take the rental car back. We brought bags back on board and went back out to see some touristy things that were close to the pier. We went to see King Kamehameha's Statue and the Iolani Palace (from behind closed gates), as well as took a few photos (as best we could) of the banyan tree. Then we walked back to the ship to close the day with 16,093 steps. Can't believe the ship leaves in 90 minutes. Boo. Hawaii needs 24 hour daylight so that I can see it all! 5 more sea days and then we land in Papeete.Les mer
