• Day 36

    21 luglio, Brasile ⋅ ☁️ 31 °C

Today we explored Belem. We started at some botanical gardens where they have basically preserved the rainforest flora and fauna which is very cool. The trees were incredibly tall, huge roots, massive leaves etc. sadly it was also a zoo set up with exotic birds and animals from the rainforest in cages which both Keira and I are very against. We did manage to see two wild green parrots and another parrot which was really special. Sadly I didn’t have my big camera lens with me so the pictures aren’t great but a nice spot! We also saw some Cuatis wild too.

We then had our pack lunch before heading down to the docks and the largest air market in Latin America! It was selling everything from trinkets to fruit and veg to live animals. Guinea fowl and turkeys in cages, we also saw some parrots in cages too which was sad. Not sure if people would buy them as pets or to eat ?? The docks themselves were lined with fishing boats and surrounded by small vultures eating the fish remains and rubbish that was on the shoreline.

We then went on a bit of a side quest when I saw a tiny kitten trapped in an electrical box. Keira managed to get it out but with no mother cat around if we had left it it was sure to die. So we managed to find a vet who eventually found someone who could adopt her!!

We then grabbed a drink before heading back to our air bnb. Boat tip tomorrow!
