• Day 5: Rome

    March 24 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 12 °C

Today we started back on the high speed train to Florence! Such a nice way to travel, wish we had more trains in the US haha.

Once arrived we took a bus to the new neighborhood of Rome we’re staying in: Trastevere! It is ADORABLE, quaint, young, lively, and food/drinks everywhere you go. We ate a delicious pizza lunch at Dar Poeta, right outside our place, as we waited to check-in!

After a quick nap, we walked to Vatican City (stopping for some shopping/cappuccinos along the way). We spent the next few hours touring the Vatican City museums which includes the Sistene Chapel!! No photos allowed inside the chapel, but we got to see The Creation of Adam in person (see the google search for details). So incredible & the museum itself had an insane amount of ancient art. You could spend days there!

Then we headed back to Trastevere and walked to one of the little restaurants by us, where we had the most DELICIOUS meal at La Scaletta! Limoncello spritz’s, bruschetta, burrata, and pastas (jess got pesto, i got caico e pepe, and alivia got a pork shoulder and mushroom pasta).

Despite it being a Tuesday there were so many young people out and about at the bars, so we ended the night hitting a few wine bars (Essenza and Big Hilda Public), talking to locals (we met a group of italian firefighters who were hilarious), and playing cards outside on the patio :)
