  • Lubeck Travemünde

    June 6, 2019 in Germany ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

Travemünde is a city which seems to be a mix between Benidorm (Portugal) and Deauville (France). A nice beach covered with "teepees" (a kind of) and an ugly tower just close to main beach. Most of what we saw of the city has not really points of interests except Ferry docks to Scandinavia and this beach which has many valuable estates, hotels and restaurantsRead more

  • Copenhagen beer halt

    June 7, 2019 in Denmark ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

Very nice city, having a drink with team 71 which "find penguins" app is not tracking since day 1, but I got the pictures as proof 😉. On our way to Copenhagen, one flyer from Danish candidate to EEC Parliament catched our eyes, she must be under age or as skilled as I am for drawing 🤣. Otesund bridge, giant papaver on one roundabout. Boarding on ferry where we met. Canalview of Copenhagen.Read more

  • Completing our first Swedish tasks

    June 7, 2019 in Sweden ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

Passing the long bridge. We cannot say we fulfilled our mission, Thanks to Team 71, we not lost ourselves in the Swedish Wild, few indications about road numbers, tough to find our way, to Viking Museum but we gathered all what was needed, rune stone, wooden carved Viking image, landscape, looking to Wild camping site, we lost and found that nice light in Sandhammaren then headed to Ales Stenar where we met another team. We eventually went back to Ystad to find where to sleep. Most hotels were full already for the weekendRead more

  • From Ystad to Ryd

    June 8, 2019 in Sweden ⋅ 🌧 15 °C

We left Ystad where all hotels were almost fully booked with Danish coming for the weekend. It is a good bargain for them. Charming city by the way.
It has been raining cats and dogs most our way to Ryd (pronounce Rud') so I not stopped as much as I would have liked to photograph many natural and architectural wonders we discovered.
Ryd is well known for a car wreck which is supposed also to display ABBA bus tour in poor condition as you may see. What about the band itself?? Just ten pictures per topic not allow to show how our beloved youngtimer or more older vehicles would finally turn into. On some cemetery you can read " we were what you are, you will end like we are"

  • From Ryd to Jönköping

    June 8, 2019 in Sweden ⋅ 🌧 17 °C

Weather started to improve so we could take some pictures but long is the road driving an average 80km/h but on very good roads. Speed limit is from 80 to 100km/h. Here are some samples of what we enjoyed. Landscape are to be seen, pictures cannot render their beauty. The tiniest and simpliest Shell gas station I have ever seen wherever I went on this planet. Jönköping seemed calm and empty for a Saturday afternoon.. we don't know customs here so..Read more

  • Jönkopping to Örebro area

    June 8, 2019 in Sweden ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Leaving Jönköping we headed to Gränna and its Polar expedition museum, we met the local Nessie, apparently alive and kicking this side of the Channel. Museum was closed. We were too late so headed to our lodging in Örebro Area, enjoying the sun. Have look to today price which are almost everywhere the same since since we entered the Kingdom. Today's rate is 7.50kr for 1 Euro. Is Greece cheaper nowadays? I remember Sweden oil prices to be cheaper in 2012, but time (or policy) apparently changed . We finished off roads to our lodging.. our Bentley who has been designed to tour on asphalt, did the job anyway.. I guess she wanted to have a break and rest as much as we didRead more

  • From Strömsund to Bodø (Norway)

    June 10, 2019 in Sweden ⋅ ☀️ 12 °C

We left Strömsund without any regret to Bodø. A long ride in the Swedish Lapland. Amazing roads. Some wild reindeers, our firsts.. no moose. And the only bear we could take a picture of was a stuffed one at the tourist information centre in Strömsund. Could we expect bears to waive at the tourists passing by? Getting through the mountain pass to Norway, we discovered altitude frozen lakes and first firns. You could not stand out of the car because of the freezing wind.. the other side of the Scandinavian alps, nature appeared not to be the same.. let's discover. I was always told petrol was more expensive in Norway, in fact it is more expensive in Sweden due to "green tax", in In Norway, SP95 is about 17kr. 9.75 Norwegian krone worth 1 euroRead more

The Lofoten are an amazing atchipelago where nature and landscapes are always stunning and different from island to island. We started discovery at Moskenes and headed to firecamp, missed the Team games but not the barbecue, we will sleep close to the beach as every team did. Sauna was available and you could run to the sea to get a bath.. without me. Respect for those who didRead more

  • From Nordkapp to Finland

    June 14, 2019 in Norway ⋅ ⛅ 8 °C

We jad resy back in our cabin after our visit to Nordkapp then headed to Finland. In the Artic, trees are all the same specie not high and tortuous, small leaves. They grow during the 6 months 24 hours daylight then almost 6 months of darkness and tough weather conditions. Many lakes, and large rivers even if it seems 2018 has been too dry and lakes level are not what they should be in LaplandRead more

  • Entering Russia from Finland

    June 14, 2019 in Finland ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

We went to Raja-Jooseppi to enter Russian border.. we didn't know then that road was under heavy roadworks, as Russian checkpoint soldier told us "good luck!", we needed all luck he could give... good news. In Russia SP95 is around 46 Rubles. Exchange rate average is 72 Rubles for 1 Euro. "So far so good" I thought compared to Swedish oil price..Read more

  • Murmansk. THE task. Checked!

    June 15, 2019 in Russia ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

The task of the day was to find the first of the ten nuclear civil boat built by Russia from 1957. The Lenin is the first of the nine icebreaker built by Russia. Last nuclear boat is a cargo. He is now on display at Murmansk and can be visited with an English speaking tourguide and it worths every penny. This boat has been built in 36 months!! And went in service late 1959, early 1960, this icebreaker has been in service until 2000. Four of them are still in service. I made many pictures but ten of them is all what I can share.. lenin had an output power of 44.000 Horse Power, twice more than US icebreaker at that time who were steam ones only and had to refuel every month. The Lenin was able to cruise for a year at the minimum but with new "fuel bars", it could be at sea from four to six YEARS.. nowadays, icebreakets are 90.000 Horse Power and planning to make some twice powerful.
In meeting room pictures, have been painted renowned visitors who onboarded the Lenin while its active service, I let you guess

  • Heading South to Petrozavodsk

    June 16, 2019 in Russia ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

A long ride ahead of us. 930km from Murmansk to the city of Petrozavodsk (tough name to say..). Once leaving Murmansk, the next road change was 700km (seven hundred) ahead, on a good federal highway. Imagine driving from Paris to Marseille without going through a town on the same road almost straight, gas stations from time to time and ... the Wild.Read more

  • On our way to Petrozavodsk

    June 16, 2019 in Russia ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

My first cemetery in a wood.. ever. I discovered many more then.. silk flowers and wreaths.
Stone towers, some huge but could not pull over to take pictures.
A strange caterpillar vehicle, I am still wondering what can be its use.
At last, my record breaker, 540km with just 62 liters.. just in Russia. Driving 90-100km/h, using cruise control, my average thete there is 13,40L/100km. I love mu car and Russian federal highways, driving downtown is not same.

We just had 460km to drive.
As usual, good Federal highway and less about city streets but no pothole in St Petersburg large avenues at least.
This city deserves to explored for many days. So much to see, members from different teams agreed on a five day stay to have an overview of the major places. Most pictures are on the Canon EOS as wide angle was neededRead more

    June 18, 2019 in Estonia ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C
