  • Day 2

    June 1, 2023 in Germany ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

We got up early and had breakfast, so we were ready to board the coach for a day tour of Alkmaar. We visited Windmills and got to see how you would have lived in a working Windmill. It was so cold and windy, at least that ensured the Windmill was working. Then visited a beautiful little town, we had a guided tour and then wandered around for little while, bought a coffee and in the Cafe was the most expensive bottle of Balsamic vinegar I have ever seen. We got back on the coach and headed back the boat. I had nap and Jen went the lounge to listen to a String Quartet.Read more

Then we wondered around Cologne and buying souvenirs. I bought 3 magnets and some little bottles of Eau De Cologne 4711 in little tins, Jen bought chocolates. I walked up onto the Cologne bridge that has all the Love locks on it and then back to ship for drinks on the top deck. • Day 4

    June 3, 2023 in Germany ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

The mornings trip down the Rhine was amazing, the view from our room was beyond words. Jen went up to the top deck to the walking track and stayed in bed as I had a bad night with my Colitis. I got up around 9.30 and had a later breakfast and then met Jen on the top deck to watch the world go by. We arrived at Rudesheim at 12.30, disembarked at 1.00 to star our tour. Jen & I both did the walk through the vineyards. Well no one told us it was at the top of a massive hill and there was a monument at the top. The walk nearly killed me but we made it to a restaurant at the top to have a glass Reisling. I was so hot I could even drink the wine. We the walked up to the monument and then up further to the cable cars, which they call gondolas for the trip down. There was Christmas shop at the bottom so we did a bit of shopping but not too much as it was so expensive. We then walked back to boat to leave again at 4.00.Read more

  • Day 6

    June 5, 2023 in Germany ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

We arrived early and left for our tour to Rothenburg at 8.30, it was an hour bus ride. The town is a walled town and once you were inside the walls it was a village that time forgot (except for the cars) The Christmas shop was amazing, we spent most of our free time in this shop and could have spend all our money there too. We then had a coffee in a beautiful cafe and walked down to the gardens in Pinocchios nose. We wandered around all the little shops and then headed back to the buses at 1.30, as soon as we arrived back at the boat we were off again. Next stop BambergRead more

  • Day 7

    June 6, 2023 in Germany ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Jen is not been well now, she has sinuses so had a quiet morning in bed and dosing herself up on Panadol. We docked at 1.30 and left for our tour at 2.30. The guide was so slow and very boring, it was driving us both nuts so we ditched the tour and wandered around Bamberg by ourselves. Not that we were alone very long, we crossed paths with a number of groups from the ship but at least we could look at the shops and do things at our own pace. It was a beautiful town and we enjoyed just looking at the shops, the buildings and the bridges. I also managed to get so pictures of 2 locks today the last one was huge it was over 36 metres high.Read more

  • Day 8

    June 7, 2023 in Germany ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Jen is feeling better yoday. Today we docked early and our tours started at 9.00, I did the Nurnburg old town tour and Jen did the Nuremberg World War ll tour. The old town tour was lovely we started at the top of a hill at the Castle they were setting up a Beer festival in the moor, luckily it was a dry moor. We wandered our way down to the market square where in December they have the world famous Christmas markets. There was a Church convention in town so there was lots of stages being erected and tents being set up so it was very busy. We had an hour and a half free time before heading back to the boat for lunch. I wandered around the town and checked out the shops, I found a shop with some interesting shoes & handbags, a crazy cookie store and souvenir stores selling pretty much the same stuff as the other towns. I stopped at a restaurant for a coffee and asked for a Cappuccino and the waiter said no only Espresso so I said ok, I will have a Coke then. He came back with an expresso and a coke so I tried my very first expresso. I actually really enjoyed the expresso, the coke may have been an overkill on the caffeine but I drank that too.Read more

    June 9, 2023 in Austria ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

Today was a big day, we had to get a coach to Salzburg which took 2hrs and then I did the Sound of Music tour and Jen did the Mozart tour. We both ditch the tours early and just wandered around the shops, you get a bit over the tours after a while as they are too slow. The shops were amazing and I found some cute little Garden Gnomes in a shop window. We then got back on the coaches to go to the top of Goat Mountain to have a Bavarian lunch and a Sound of Music show. The road to the top of the mountain was closed as they were having sports car rally, so we had a permit to get through and after lunch we got watch the rally finish. The cars were amazing and so was the view from up there, the pictures don't do the veiw justice.Read more

  • Day 11

    June 10, 2023 in Austria ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

We docked in Melk and the tour today was of an Abbey and then a walk through town and then back to the boat. Its seems the sports car are following us, from the Abbey we could see about 20 sports car stopped in the main street, Lamborghinis, Ferraris and Porsches, then they turned around and sped of in the opposite direction. The abbey was beautiful and the video is of the water feature as you walk in. Some crazy people did a 35k bike ride from Melk to Durnstein, we sailed on the boat at 12.30 and docked at Durnstein at 2.30. While we waiting for the bike riders to get to the boat we wandered around the town. It poured rain and we got soaked but we didn't really care, it is the first time it has rained so we have been lucky. We had our invite to the Portabello restaurant tonight, it was a beautiful Italian dinner of 8 courses. Way too much food.Read more

This was not my sort of music but it is nice that scenic supports the institute. Back on the boat we had a Hungarian folk band and dances, it was very entertaining. Then after dinner we sat on the sundeck as we cruised around Budapest and enjoyed the lights of the city. Tomorrow is an early start as we need to have our bags outside our doors by 8.30 and our shuttle to the hotel is at 10.00.Read more
