  • First stop

    May 25 in France ⋅ 🌧 18 °C

Long ride today, 390 miles and heavy rain midway. Drying out now with a beer 🍺

  • Pontarlier stop

    May 26 in France ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

A dry day, whoop. Just got to Pontarlier on the Swiss border after 590 miles in two days. Great roads from Troyes to Besancon, D619 and D67 if you go that way.

  • First Italian stop

    May 27 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Into Switzerland from Pontarlier on the A roads, scenic but a little slow through the villages. Now in northan Italy near Vercelli, time for spaghetti.

  • Livorno

    May 28 in Italy ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

Good ride down to the coast, motorway and some twisty roads in between. Delightful, quirky apartment in the town centre. Found a restaurant recommended by our host that was excellent 👌 Heading for Rome now 😬Read more

  • Rome

    May 30 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Glad to get into Rome after 210 miles in the heat, had to dodge the crazy scooter riders in the city though 😳. Fabulous day today exploring the Colosseum Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum. The historic site is huge, so much to take in, a day really isn't long enough! Over 20000 steps plus some of the paving is actually massive granite stones so a good job we had trainers on 😁Read more

  • The Vatican

    May 31 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Another cultural day viewing the Vatican museums, again so much to see. The audio guide is well worth it in both the Colosseum and Vatican (finding the Vatican audio play number is a little tricky though). Highlights were the Gallery of Maps, Raphael Rooms, Pinacoteca (Art Gallery),
of course the The Sistine Chapel. By the time we came out of the museums it was mid afternoon so followed the Vatican wall around to Saint Peter’s Basilica. Even though it's free to enter there is still a security check to go through and the queue was massive. 40 minutes to get in but magnificent architecture. Back on the bike tomorrow, heading for Pompeii 😎

  • Pompeii

    June 2 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

The city is quite compact with plenty of bars and restaurants. Short walk from our apartment to the east side of the archaeological Pompeii site. It's unbelievable that the entire Roman city was buried under debris from mout Vesuvius. Great day exploring the ruins but you need the audio guide. Similar to Palatine Hill, the roads are made from huge granite blocks. Apparently they were often flooded to wash away waste water and sewage, with high kerbs and stepping stones to cross the road 😬Read more

  • Amalfi coast

    June 3 in Italy ⋅ 🌙 23 °C

Late afternoon and evening ride around the famous Amalfi coust, about 40 miles of the twistiest road I've been on. Fabulous views that the camara just doesn't capture. Heading north tomorrow.

  • Heading north

    June 4 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Doing some distance today, 240 miles north to Civitanova Marche. Fabulous roads across Parco Nazionale della Maiella ( if you're interested the SS17, SS84 and SS81)

  • Civitanova Marche

    June 4 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Moving on to Civitanova Marche, for an overnight. Cooling of a little from +30°c to a comfortable 26°c. Lovely beach front town but an annoying main line tain track right in the middle of it 🙄. Found a great fish restaurant though, catering for gluten free 👍.Read more

  • Chioggia

    June 6 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Arrived here yesterday after our VR46 visit, mostly motorway and the landscape is pretty flat so not that interesting but caught glimpses of the Adriatic Sea and the coast line. Chioggia is a little Venice, only a few canals but picturesque all the same. Our hotel is in the south side of Sottomarina area which has a huge sandy beach. Chioggia town centre is about 45 minutes walk but it's been a glorious day and there are plenty of bars on the way 😉Read more

  • Prato Allo Stelvio

    June 7 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

We've arrived in Prato Allo Stelvio, about 10 miles from the Swiss / Italian boarder. Flat landscape to start but got a lot more interesting from Trento and found a few twisty bits after Bolzan Bozen. A few snow topped mountains around us and a few clouds 😬. Forecast is not that great tomorrow so might be a bit damp crossing Switzerland 😳.Read more

  • Swiss passes

    June 8 in Switzerland ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

We managed to dodge the rain this morning. Started in Italy taking the SS41 road to the Swiss border then on the 28 over the Ofenpass at 7050 ft (2149m), great scenery. Along the same road to Flueelapass at 7821 ft (2384m), so a little higher. This time we were into thick clouds and fog so couldn't see a thing and the road was soaking wet. Great road though on the dry bit either side of the mountain 😁.Read more

  • Meersburg

    June 8 in Germany ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

Arrived in Meersburg for the night on the side of Lake Constance (known as Bodensee in German). We been in four countries today; Italy, Switzerland, Austria and now Germany. Overcast and windy at the moment but the sun is starting to break through 👍
Lovely meal in a traditional German restaurant, Meersburg is a very nice town.

  • Germany to France

    Jun 9–13 in France ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

Long spells on the German Auotbahn and French motorway so not that interesting but we did find a couple of twisty roads cutting across the Black Forest heading for Metz. Dry day and a little cooler than we've been used to for the last 10 days 🥶Read more

  • Metz

    June 9 in France ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Now in the old town of Metz, France. We've been here a few times on route to various parts of Europe, hopefully we can find a restaurant open on bank holiday Monday 😬

p.s. the Mexican is always open 😁Read more
