Found an iguana-y lizard hanging in the back by the pool right away. Neighbor's house has a Robinson Curuso thing going with coconuts.

Lunch and beach

Fish tacos and sopes at a pirate themed restaurant. Caitlin got a brownie and quesadilla. My strawberry Margarita was pretty darn strong. Headed to the beach to check it out and then found the police at our car when we got back.. they were just cooling off in the shade. Back to the house to run to the market and then cool off in the pool.Read more

First evening swim

Still warm and nice out. Went for a little walk to some stores and to check the beach while waiting for pizza from I Wanna Pizza. Ate dinner with our feet in the pool and Lisa and Caitlin went for a little swim.

Went to Cancun for Costco, got pulled over and had to pay $71. Thank god those police helped me out and gave me half price if I paid now... couldn't figure out how to get out of the parking lot at Costco. Our ticket wouldn't work so we had to back out of line and go inside to get it stamped Lol.

Then back to the house for lunch and then a trip to the square for some shopping and hanging out with the locals. Was followed around by Charlie Brown, who wanted to take us out fishing, and saw a little play going on while vendors set up around the square.

Caitlin got a cool necklace carved in a Mexican coin of two geckos that fit together and ordered a lamp with geckos cut out of pvc that we have to pick up tomorrow night. She also bought a hand carved sling shot. I got a Taurus and Gemini symbol cut out in coins and a license plate. Caitlin also got a braided bracelet for her ankle.

Took a dip in the ocean and then headed back to the house for a quick evening swim at then dinner. It was another long, hot day.Read more

Walked down 5th avenue and purchased 2 shirts and a wrap for Caitlin, a silver and Turquoise ring for me, Tiff bought us all toe rings and my mom got some earrings. Caitlin and Lisa both got some bead covered statues. Got Raymond some cigars.

Stopped at Walmart after and got Raymond some hot sauces and my dad and him some father's day mugs.

Stopped by the town square when we got back to pick up Caitlin's lamp and Tiffany a purse. Can't see the lamp until we get back because it was wrapped up well already but Caitlin was happy with it.Read more

Caitlin's birthday!

First stop was the Dolphin Discovery at Puerto Aventuras where Caitlin was going to swim with the dolphins, seals, and manatees. Tiff decided she wanted to go along and they had a blast. Caitlin said her favorite part was the manatees.

Then we left and went to Cenote Azul, which was a couple of cenotes down a path through the jungle, leading to a large one at the end in the sun. We swam for awhile, saw tons of little fish and even a crab and black bird with a long neck that swam under water and ate all the fish he could.

We planned to go back to the beach but by the time we got back to town and ran around looking for a bakery, we decided to BBQ and stay at the house. We got to see the colonial side of town and unusual houses while looking for a bakery, which turned out to be someones house. So we went to the market on that side of town and then the larger supermarket by the highway before finding a cake.

We swam for a little and then ate dinner and did cake. Mimi got Caitlin a manatee backpack and Puerto Morelos magnet. Lisa and Tee got her some more kinder eggs.Read more

Beach and relax day

Woke up and had some coffee. Tiff found a scorpion halfway in the cabinet. We sprayed him and I felt bad but didn't know what else to do. Got to the beach this morning, didn't take my phone. Just relaxed and swam for a few hours. Saw a bird bring in a snake but dropped it a few yards from shore into the water when another bird tried to steal it. Went back to the house to swim and found another scorpion under the breathing tube for a snorkel by the rafts. Scooped him up with the dust pan and get him into the planter bed. Then rested and swam before heading into town to check the book store that was closed for the season. Drove around the colonial side of town and was amazed at the houses and activity everywhere. Plus the hundreds of dogs roaming around. Very different and interesting to see.Read more

Chichen Itza and Volladolid

Drove out to Chichen Itza. Took the free road that was supposed to be about a half hour longer than the 2 hour toll road but ended up being about 3 hours there but we drove through a bunch of little towns. Discovered that coca cola must be huge here as it was painted on the side of nearly every market along the way. It was fascinating to see all the people in the little towns. We passed through one town that almost everyone was riding in a little cart attached to the front of a bike or motorcycle. They even had a dedicated lane for them. The kids all seem to have to wear uniforms to school and are still in school this time of the year. There was a ton of activity and people picking kids up from school with the carts. Another town was lined with nurseries. The sidewalks seem to have been built over whatever previously laid there so they went up and down constantly. People were out getting building supplies and sticks, rocks, bricks, etc. Most of the houses had no doors on them, not sure if they take them off during the day or just don't have them.

Finally got to the ruins and immediately found a your guide. As soon as we got out of the car it began pouring but cleared up quickly. Enjoyed our tour and then bought a couple of items. Caitlin got a jaguar head that you blow into to make noise and my mom got more earrings and Lisa got a plate that I never got to see.

Stopped at a buffet not far after the ruin exit that had some good food and nice atmosphere.

The trip back was on the toll highway that was 18 dollars but 110 kph instead of 90. It was also more of a straight shot. Stopped in Volladolid to print Xcaret tickets but decided just to buy them on site instead as we were only saving 5 dollars a ticket and it was more of a hassle. Checked out the narrow and Spanish style streets and then headed back home.Read more

Xcaret and storm

Finally got our trip to xcaret..unfortunately it was a stormy and wet day. It poured and thundered not long after we did the river trip. We bought panchos to keep our bags dry and walked around to the jaguar exhibit but they were on a honeymoon. Checked out the butterflies and birds before heading over to the cemetery. Ate a great buffet lunch when it started to dump water down and decided to head out. An interesting day but sad we missed many of the activities.Read more

Puerto Morelos

Took a walk downtown, stopped and found some souvenirs. Got a fabric C and A with flowers stiched on it for Caitlin and Alyssa, a spoon rest for home, a mosaic seahorse for Debbie and a little ceramic box for Alyssa.

Then made our way down to the pier and talked to Charlie Brown before heading to a restaurant. I got shrimp and Caitlin got guacamole and chips. Just about as we were finishing, a storm started and dumped rain on us.

Headed back to the house to swim.Read more

Another rainy day so we decided to skip Tulum and head to Playa del Carmen again for the aquarium and The Incredibles 2, but that was only in Spanish with no subtitles so we walked around the mall for a little and headed back. Caitlin got some flip flops at Hang 10.

My stomach was really hurting so I stayed in the car while they ate and went to Walmart.

Headed back to the house and will probably go get some dinner later.Read more
