    ..travelling day..

    Travelling these days..is full of jeoperdies ..as expected..TransPennine Express cancelled my train to the airport..so got the earlier train to Manchester.. thus arriving 5 hours before departure..but..good job..my boarding card was playing up..so queued to get a paper version..when I went to security..this is at 02.45..there was a massive queue already….so many people..and so early..made it through..eventually..and was with coffee and bacon roll around 04.30☺️
    A TUI Boeing 787 Dreamliner awaited..took off for Dalaman 30 mins late..all well..until Carly..a delightful little girl..age 1..and three quarters..was sick all over herself..her mum..and me😳..just one of those things..arrived safely..and a bus direct from airport to Fethiye..57kms..only £3..thats by far the best ever bus value per km I have ever had..so..all good..I am in Turkey🇹🇷    Read more

    …hot…but a pool to dip into..and beers in the fridge..Turkey..with rampant inflation..and a collapse of its lirasi ..against other FIAT currencies..makes for excellent value for visitors..steak..with peppercorn sauce..and chips and salad..equiv of £8..thats just amazing..and at a seafront restaurant..
    The mosque..not far away..calls the faithful..3 times a day..he goes on a bit😚    Read more

    ..due to the heat..I haven’t walked today..so..a day of keeping cool..with dinner in Fethiye old town...another superb value for money dinner,..shish kebabs..with all the usual..equiv £8..I keep going on about this..as just cannot get over the value for money that Turkey gives the traveller 😚Read more

    ..not The Lycian way…yet!!

    ..having not fully appreciated the distances involved..and where the long distance path actually started..my 3 days in Fethiye involved no walking..as I was too far away to do any of the Lycian Way..from my accommodation..as I had planned..and Baba Dag..a possible climb..was also not possible..so a right f**k up 🤣..however..days by the pool were a pleasant alternative..with beers.
    I have now moved down the coast..to where I know the Lycian Way passes through..so will definitely start some hikes tomorrow🙏..This is the view from my accommodation..4 nights here…and my apartment has a washing machine..oh what joy..a resupply of clean clothes..from Thursday😝    Read more

    Kas..Lycian Way

    ..well..finally..after Covid..my first time in my walking boots..and it feels good😚..so as not to knock myself out in the heat..I only did 4-5 hours..just to get back into it..stunning scenery..didnt see anyone on the path The Lycian Way is styled in the French Grande Randonne..for long distance paths..with the classic red and white stripe markers..although some are quite worn now.Very hot..essential to start early..07.00..to take advantage of the relative cool..and not still be out mid afternoon..sunstroke territory😳Read more

    ..another early 07.00 start..to beat the main heat of the day..Lycian Way actually gave me a proper sign today..the first so far..excellent viewpoint..then it looked like km after km of scrub and thorns..didnt fancy that..so went back to my apartment..and did my laundry..all done..and drying on a sunny balcony..love a laundry day☺️..its the little things that matter🙏..the island..in one of the pics..is Megisti..a Greek IslandRead more

    Kas is a wonderful place..feels right..even on a day off from hiking…I move on tomorrow..but 4 nights here has been a great experience..sitting on the waterfront..posting this footprint..with a cold beer..sun is shining..of course..and the fierce heat of the afternoon sun has gone over just enough to be comfortable again..

    ..a travel day..100km or so from Kas..arrived at my accommodation..nice😚..its near to Ovacik..where Lycian Way starts…its 3pm..and so hot..everyone’s fled indoors from the pool..I however..have just arrived..so..in true Mad Englishman tradition..am outside☺️..albeit in the shade…composing this Day 8 footprint..time for a beer..I think so🤩Read more

    ..at 1969m..the views are stunning..I have noticed how the Turks put the most enormous National flags on their summits…the paragliders were out in force today..still hot out here..its been a long day..I haven’t the strength to even eat tonight…but..have a bottle of iced water..my good friend..Klaus..says water is life..I agree..and..goodnight 😴😴Read more

    ..meaning..no walking today..all I have is a few pics from around the pool earlier..its roasting again..38c..so am in my air conditioned bedroom..going to a local bar soon..to watch the race..will have the boots back on tomorrow..its good to have a slow day..although I have had a few of those on this trip😀Read more

    ..hich hotel..what a find..I do like Konya..the huge mosque is across from my bedroom view..but ..in not so good news..a beer just cannot be found..anywhere😳..thats what happens when one travels far away from the usual vacation spots..which is refreshing..in a way…and..an early night is due anyway…and it’ll do me good..although I feel I am already addicted to Ice Tea😝
    With an offer to meet up with James..on Saturday..in London..I have decided to bring this trip to a close..and make my way home..via Ankara..and Istanbul..using a train..and 2 planes..therefore..2 further Turkey footprints after this..it has been an excellent..and varied trip.    Read more

    ..good morning..Ankara..the Capital of Turkey..well..am off to the airport soon..to fly to Istanbul..and then on to London..so cannot give you the time you deserve..sorry..my Turkish trip is almost at an end..it has been a really rewarding experience..the places..the people..the walking..the food..everything ..I will be returning☺️
