    Istanbul - Goreme, Cappadocia

    March 26 in Turkey ⋅ ☀️ 5 °C

Noah and I arrived in Goreme, Cappadocia, after an overnight stay in Istanbul. We immediately went exploring the village nestled amongst the stone fairy chimneys. The chimneys are a result of volcanic eruptions which began millions of years ago. The ash hardened into tuff, a porous rock, which was covered by a layer of basalt. The basalt on top eroded more slowly, and formed a mushroom-shaped cap over each pillar, protecting it from further erosion. It is an unbelievable sight! Quite mind boggling! We then went back to our accommodation for a midday nap, before heading out in the evening to Anatolian Kitchen for a traditional Turkish dinner. We had Testi Kebabi (pressure cooked in a sealed terracotta pot, and hit open with a sword!), followed by a traditional dessert called Knafeh, made with spun pastry, soaked in a sweet, sugar-based syrup and layered with cheese and pistachio nuts. Heaven on a plate!Read more
