  • Parco di Bomarzo

    May 9, 2017 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

The sacred park of Bomarzo is home to 38 fantastic and scary sculptures. The area was the idea of a prince in 1552 and the statues were sculpted on site.

We arrived around lunch time and were welcomed by a thunder and hail storm, it was quite noisy and wet, so we decided to go for lunch and wait it (hopefully) out. An incredibly nice meal (Ristorante La Molinella, you were amazing) later, we tried our luck to the park again as the storm had stopped.

The sky was an incredible shade of blue, which worked perfectly against the colour of the wet grass and the sculptures. Due to the storm, the park was basically empty, making the walk even better!

I hadn't been here since I was about 8 and had been wanting to go again for a while now. I didn't regret it for a second!

  • Guido Reni District

    May 11, 2017 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

I had already seen the Real Bodies exhibit in Lisbon last year but it was so worth going again!

The Guido Reni District is a great new location (from late 2016), right across from MAXXI, the museum. And, if you like kitties, there is a really nice protected feline colony right across :)

As for the exhibit itself, it is a rare chance to see human bodies up close. It is definitely not for every stomach, but it has great educational value. As for the one in Lisbon, I have found the foetal room to be the hardest to watch, and the nervous system area to be incredibly fascinating. It took us about 90 minutes to go through it, so put some time aside.

There#s an Alice in Wonderland themed small cafe# with a garden, outside the exhibit.

We were planning to visit the square in front of MAXXI afterwards, but it was closed due to some kind of event.

  • Big Star

    May 11, 2017 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

The Big Star is a must stop whenever I visit as that's where I'll most likely find some of my friends. They have a great selection of beer and wines, plus they also serve food.

We arrived late afternoon and the bar counter was covered with a buffet of savoury cakes, for the "aperitivo". As long as you order drinks, you can eat as much of that as you want with it.

We decided to stay for dinner too, and I went for the oven baked scamorza, which I adore. My friend had the meatballs and veggies.
