Road Trip to Ludlow, MA

We decided to drive to Massachusetts instead of flying, which meant we could take Freya on the road trip.

Day 1 was a 10+ hour drive north to Roanoke, VA. We learned some important things during this first long road trip: Allan likes to stop frequently (due to old football injuries), Kaitlyn does not like to stop frequently. Coffee is important (thank goodness for Dunkin’) and snacks are key to keeping grumpiness at bay. 2-hourly stops/switches commenced: Allan and Freya to stretch (their legs) and/or to go to the toilet; Kaitlyn to get coffee and/or snacks.

The morning of day 2, Allan wanted to visit the largest man-made star, which was on top of a nearby mountain (he has a list of random “world’s biggest/smallest/first/only”, etc. sort of things).

We met some older women at the summit, one of whom was allegedly "related to Braveheart", and had some really bad pictures taken in front of the star. Luckily, Allan is an expert at selfies so we could salvage some evidence of the experience.

Roanoke to Ludlow was about another 10 hours. We arrived around 23:00, in time for bed. It was strange sleeping in my childhood single bed across from Allan, who was sleeping in Sarah’s childhood bed.
