    One adventure ends

    May 15, 2018 in Singapore ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

One adventure ends and another begins. 103 days ago this particular journey began. In 24 hours or so, I will be back in the US. What an amazing trip it has been, filled with interesting people, beautiful sites and all kinds of great food. I have no idea where we will be living 3 months from now, not even what country it will be. Life just gets more and more interesting!Read more

  • Orchids

    May 14, 2018 in Singapore ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

The National Orchid Garden in Singapore is not to be missed (unless you don’t like orchids!). There are more than 25,000 types of orchids in the world and it seems like most of them are on view.

  • Aquatic Addiction

    May 4, 2018 in Taiwan ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Aquatic Addiction is inside the Taipei Fish Market. The fish is so fresh here and it smells like you’re at the ocean. There’s also a giant market with sushi, cooked fish and other delicacies. Lunch was scallop sashimi, assorted sushi, a slab of broiled salmon and rice with scallop.Read more

  • Taiwan's National Obsession

    May 2, 2018 in Taiwan ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Yes, baseball is very very popular here but it’s not the national obsession. Beef noodle soup is. Everyplace claims to be the best. Yong Kang Beef Noodle has been around since 1963. You can’t miss the place because there’s always a long line outside. Now I know why. After dinner, you go for Mango Snowflake Ice, another Taiwanese craze.Read more

  • First visit to Taiwan

    May 2, 2018 in Taiwan ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

A new place to explore. Very excited about 10 days here. What’s the very first place to visit? No doubts, it’s the very first, original Din Tai Fung, which just happens to be a 5 minute from the hotel. None of the fancy trappings of the foreign outposts, but the same long lines. Staff are very welcoming and excited if it’s your first visit to Taipei. The bill came to $918. Pricey but hey, it’s vacation.Read more

  • Baan Thai Family, Michelin *

    April 27, 2018 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

Small and comfortable, I first ate at Baan six months ago and was wowed. It received one star from Michelin Guide. Returned last night and 3 of us feasted on subtle Thai food, sourced from small artisan producers. This is not the Thai food you get in most US restaurants (Langbaan does it in Portland and Elmhurst places in NYC). Looking forward to a return visit!Read more

  • Patricia Piccinini

    April 17, 2018 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 22 °C

An Australian artist who works in so many media. Not posted are her video presentations which add a whole other dimension to her work. A challenging, exciting exhibit.

  • Brisbane by day

    April 15, 2018 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 23 °C

Brisbane is Australia ‘s third city and people in Sydney and Melbourne can sneer at it. However it is really hip. There are lots of green spaces, free ferries ⛴ that travel the river and a respect for restoring heritage buildings rather than demolish them. There is also a lot of interesting modern architecture. People are especially friendly, even in places like a 7 11.Read more

  • Brisbane at night

    April 14, 2018 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 21 °C

Just arrived in Brisbane this afternoon. First impression is that it’s a very hip, hipster less city. Lots of interesting new buildings as well as old ones. More bridges than Portland.

  • The Yarra Valley

    April 14, 2018 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 12 °C

Just over an hour outside of Melbourne you are in the beautiful Yarra Valley. It’s another brilliant (to use the Aussie term) wine area with hundreds of wineries focusing of Pinot Noirs, Chardonnay and more. Super friendly people, great food and wines, and the hills.Read more
