    Spent the day in Dubrovnik’s Old Town, a UNESCO heritage site. Visited St. Francis Monastery and the attached old pharmacy. Viewed the Bell Tower, went to the Rector’s Palace, St. Blaise church, had drinks under umbrella tables after walking atop the City Wall overlooking the Adriatic Sea.Read more

  • Kotor, Montenegro

    Day trip to neighboring small country of Montenegro, the size of CT. Took a boat from the small village of Perast to Kotor, a charming old city. Had a lovely lunch, then headed back to Dubrovnik for an early evening swim in the Adriatic sea.Read more

    Full day exploring Sarajevo. Ate delicious Bosnian Burek. Saw and heard the Islamic “call to prayer” throughout the city. Visited the Gazi Mosque and the ornate City Hall. Finished up at Pivnica Brewery for local beer and an early dinner.Read more

    Spent the day discovering Sarajevo. Went inside the Gazi Mosque, the Catholic Church (with statue of Pope John Paul II in front), and Orthodox Church. Watched a coppersmith make some of his wares.

  • War (tunnel/talk) & Home-Hosted Dinner

    Visit to War Tunnel and Museum. War impact talk with Vuk. Went to Sarajevo “Haman” for a Turkish Bath and Moroccan spa treatment. Lovely home-cooked dinners with Bahra, her son, Fares, and his Grandma at their home as well as Edina and her young daughter’s home.Read more

  • Sarajevo to Karanac, Croatia

    Heading to Karanac for our farmhouse stay, Nik and Ante (our bus driver) treated us to a surprise visit to the small town of Jacobowitz, with one of the most beautiful cathedrals in Croatia, St. Peter’s. It was built by Bishop Strossmayer, a former Jew from a wealthy family who converted to Catholicism and used his money to serve the community. Ate a delicious local-fare lunch at the Ribarska Prica restaurant.Read more

  • Sklepic Farm, Karanac

    In the small village of Karanac, we met Denis, Goca, and their son, Stipan Sklepic. Stayed two nights at their charming farmhouse, learned how to make cheese and their special tomato sauce. Had farm-to-table dinner down the street at Dragan and Martina’s home.Read more

  • Zagreb, Croatia

    Toured Zagreb, the capital city of Croatia. Saw St. Stephen’s Cathedral (still under restoration from an earlier earthquake), several museums, and the tall white tower where they fire a cannon from the top window every day at noon. Gorgeous parks!Read more

  • Zagreb to Opatija

    Said goodbye to Zagreb. Before reaching Opatija, went to village of Viskovo for pasta-making class with Ada. Then drank wine and ate our 2 varieties of pasta. YUM! Checked into Heritage Imperial Hotel, then crossed the street to go for a swim in the Adriatic.Read more

  • Lunch & Museum in Hum

    Hum is the smallest city in the world, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. Had lunch featuring white truffle pasta, and a special local beef….SO tender! Walked around Hum and toured the interesting museum depicting life 100 years ago. Back in Opatija, explored the vibrant resort town.Read more

  • Day Trip to Lake Bled

    Visited Lake Bled, one of Slovenia’s must-see attractions. Toured the Museum, boated to the island, and rang the Church of the Assumption bell. The white mansion belonged to Tito, President of Yugoslavia. Depending on who you ask, Tito was a either great man or a tyrant.Read more

  • Ljubljana Castle, Museum & Farewell

    Took the Funicular to the Castle. Visited Nat’l Museum of Slovenia & saw the oldest musical instrument (~50,000 yrs B.C.) made from a bear femur. Received Communion at Church of the Annunciation on the Feast Day of Virgin Mary’s birth. Farewell dinner at Operna Klet. Wonderful trip!!Read more
