A Lazy Day in Tokyo

Nach über einem Monat voller Abenteuer, bin ich immer häufiger gesättigt von ständigen Erkundungen. Vor allem das ständige Navigieren und sich-verlaufen, vor allem in und um großen Bahnhöfen, finde ich sehr nervenaufreibend. In Osaka habe ich mich an einem Tag zweimal im gleichen unterirdischen Viertel verlaufen. Einmal 1,5h und einmal 45 Minuten. In Shibuya habe ich mich gestern 1,5h verlaufen. Und nein, es liegt nicht an mangelnden Navigationsfähigkeiten. Das GPS hier ist nicht so gut, sodass Google Maps mich oft nicht richtig ortet, was bei riesigen, unüberschaubaren Kreuzungen dazu führt, dass ich in die falsche Richtung laufe. In den riesengroßen Gebäuden und Bahnhöfen, in denen man Dutzende Restaurants, Arztpraxen, teils mehrere Malls, mehrere Haltestellen und Bahnsteigebenen findet, ist Google Maps vollkommen nutzlos. Bei all diesem Suchen, versehentlichen Schwarzfahren, Laufen und Verlaufen brauche ich großzügige Pausen. Eine wunderbare Pause, von der ich erzählen möchte, hatte ich gestern in Tokio.

Nachdem ich dem Labyrinth rund um die Shibuyakreuzung entkommen bin, ging es für mich in ein ganz besonderes Café. Das Meikyoku Kissa Lion. Meinyoku Kissa sind besondere Cafés, die in Japan im frühen 20. Jahrhundert an Popularität gewannen. Im Mittelpunkt dieser Cafés steht klassische Musik. Oft gibt es ein großzügiges Lautsprechersystem und eine umfangreiche Sammlung verschiedenster klassischer Musikstücke. Das Lion Café, in dem ich war, wurde im Jahr 1926 eröffnet und ist damit das älteste Café dieser Art in Tokio. Beim Betreten des Cafés wurde ich erst von Stille und anschließend den berühmten ersten Takten von „Also sprach Zarathustra“ begrüßt. Alle Sessel und Tische sind auf die gigantischen Lautsprecher am Raumende ausgerichtet. Es wird kaum gesprochen, maximal geflüstert, um eine Bestellung beim Personal aufzugeben. Jeden Tag um 15:00 und 19:00 ist Konzertstunde: ein täglich wechselndes 1-stündiges Programm. Am 5. September 2023 war es Strauss. Wenn es gerade kein Konzert gibt, werden Musikwünsche entgegengenommen. Mit hervorragendem Kaffee, gemütlicher Atmosphäre und zeitloser Musik konnte ich einfach mal zwei Stunden meine Seele baumeln lassen und mich von den Strapazen des Reisens erholen.

Nach dem Alten kommt das Neue und ich entschloss mich nach einer Reise in die Vergangenheit das teamLabs in Tokyo zu besuchen. Ein Ort voller Kunstkonstellationen, die man mit fast allen Sinnen erleben kann. Zu den Werken gibt es nicht viel zu sagen, man muss sie erleben, also lasst euch von den Bildern und Videos verzaubern, wie ich mich verzaubern lassen konnte.

After over a month filled with adventures, I find myself increasingly satiated with constant explorations. Especially the constant navigating and getting lost, especially in and around large train stations, I find very nerve-wracking. In Osaka, I got lost twice in the same underground district in one day, once for 1.5 hours and another time for 45 minutes. In Shibuya, I got lost for 1.5 hours yesterday. And no, it's not due to a lack of navigation skills. The GPS here isn't very reliable, so Google Maps often fails to locate me correctly, leading me in the wrong direction at massive, overwhelming intersections. In these enormous buildings and train stations where you can find dozens of restaurants, clinics, sometimes multiple malls, multiple stops, and platforms, Google Maps is utterly useless. With all this searching, accidental fare dodging, walking, and getting lost, I need generous breaks. One wonderful break I want to tell you about was in Tokyo yesterday.

After escaping the labyrinth around the Shibuya Crossing, I ventured into a very special café: Meikyoku Kissa Lion. Meikyoku Kissa are special cafes that gained popularity in Japan in the early 20th century, focusing on classical music. Often, they have an extensive speaker system and a vast collection of various classical music pieces. The Lion Café I visited was opened in 1926, making it the oldest of its kind in Tokyo. Upon entering the café, I was greeted first by silence and then by the famous opening bars of "Also sprach Zarathustra." All the chairs and tables are oriented toward the gigantic speakers at the far end of the room. People speak very little, at most in hushed tones when placing an order with the staff. Every day at 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM, it's concert time: a daily rotating 1-hour program. On September 5, 2023, it was Strauss. When there's no concert, they take music requests. With excellent coffee, a cozy atmosphere, and timeless music, I could simply let my soul unwind for two hours and recover from the rigors of traveling.

After the old, comes the new, and I decided to visit teamLabs in Tokyo after my journey into the past. It's a place filled with art constellations that you can experience with almost all your senses. There's not much to say about the artworks; you have to experience them, so may the pictures and videos enchant you, as they enchanted me.Baca lagi
