    Heathcote Long Weekend

    July 3, 2020 in Australia ⋅ 🌧 8 °C

Took the opportunity again to head away Thursday afternoon for the 2 hr drive to Heathcote. Nice to leave the Covid crisis behind even though even Heathcote has set up good rules to keep us all safe.
Setting up just on dark in the local caravan park, we arrived and met the local roos that come down from the adjacent National park to graze on the camp grass.
Temperature and forecast are to be expected in winter, cold and wet.

Friday was a work day for both of us so we set up with laptops and broadband data for a day in the confined caravan, Nice and warm with a new office view.
Evening meal out to support the locals. New rules of course with social distancing in the restauarant but not as extreme as our last meal out on our previous trip away.

Saturday woke to very cold morning, frost but also overcast. We decided that a book each and warm caravan was the best option. Some cheese scones baked using the caravan oven really kept us warm. A quick walk into town to browse a few shops then a climb up to the local lookout as well for some fresh air.

Heathcote is a wine region and the locals have set up 4 cellar doors on the main street. Nice and easy to stroll between them tasting the local vintages. It just had to be done! The last place was also a gin tasting shop which Julie trialled. A tasting paddle of local gins - 6 to be precise- was tried.

Sunday was a slow start again due to the cold morning. A lot of campers leaving. The couple next to us was leaving after 5 months including 3 months of lock-down. We took an alternative route home and stopped off at Kyneton for a wander and bakery visit then easy drive back to Melbourne passing through the locked down suburbs. Nothing untoward there. Still plenty of traffic on the roads
