    Thingvellir National Park

    Þingvellir National Park is the site of the first Viking parliament, and location where American/Euro tectonic plates meet.
    Only 20% of Iceland is low land and habitable-mostly along the shore and some inward a bit. The first parliament took 2-3 weeks on horseback to gather so they camped for several weeks in June (the times of all day sun).
    At this location, a literal bridge in Miðlína crosses between the continental plates of Eurasia and North America.    Læs mere

    Strokkur geyser

    About a 45 min drive from Thingvellir National Park --The Strokkur geyser

    In Iceland there are 130 volcanoes, and 20 have erupted since the first settlement!

    The bright white horizon is in fact langjökull glacier! Not always seen from here because of clouds.

    The Gullfoss

    During the first half of the 20th century and some years into the late 20th century, there was much speculation about using Gullfoss (golden waterfall) to generate electricity. Sigríður Tómasdóttir, the daughter of Tómas Tómasson, was determined to preserve the waterfall's condition and even threatened to throw herself down. The waterfall was later sold to the state of Iceland, and is now protected.

    The Sky Lagoon

    We stepped down into the lagoon's geothermal waters and ventured through high walls of stone--the sense of swimming through a cave's maze, although open to the sky. Navigating our way to an open water area we found an expansive infinity wall at the farthest point making you feel one with the ocean.
    We took part in the revitalizing Icelandic 7-step ritual which includes a cold plunge, sauna, a cool fog mist room, an indulgent body scrub, a trip to the steam room, then back in the lagoon for as long as you wish. And more, more, more; words can't even begin to describe this experience and the views! Of course we enjoyed a refreshing beverage at the swim -up cave bar. ;)    Læs mere

    Ordinary Morning Routine

    Just an ordinary morning for Breanna on her way to work! We took the Sully exit off the subway line ("The Metro") and walked a bit to Café Hugo. I had the café allongés, and Bree and Jason had espressos. These pics are simply the view along the way. Included are Maison de Victor Hugo, Place des Vosges, and a few art galleries.Læs mere

    Sacred Heart of Montmartre

    The Basilica of the Sacred Heart (Sacred Heart of Montmartre), commonly known as Sacré-Cœur Basilica. We caught a tightly packed tram up the hill and after our visit, took a 12 min walk down quaint cobble stone roads to Moulin Rouge.

    In the floor map photo, each little section labeled "chapelle" is actually quite large and houses it's own altar and tabernacle. A list of the many donated chapels inside the Sacré-Coeur can be found on wiki:

    Sacré-Coeur is quite amazing to see in person inside and out--it took us a couple of hours (or more). The basilica overlooks the entire city of Paris. It has the largest bell in France that can be heard 10km away. One of the 2 horse rider statues out front is Joan of Arc. The mosaics inside are unbelievable, and the fencing in the garden over looking Paris can be used to attach your "love lock" (instead of weighing down / compromising the structure of the bridges over the Seine).
    Although controversial in it's alleged connection with the destruction of The Paris Commune (the French revolutionary government) in the late 1800's, it is a must see!    Læs mere
