  • Pelicans and other birds

    During the tour, we stopped by various rocky islands, that are overall known as the Blanco islands.
    They are made white by birds guano, with many different species using them as nesting areas. These islands truly are reach of biodiversity and one can see many different species in their natural environment.Weiterlesen

  • Penguins

    On one of the small rocky islands, here are some Humboldt penguins!
    This was just a small group of few individuals, but they always make a show. We had a chance to get close and take some great pictures while they casually moved around cleaning and sunbathing.Weiterlesen

  • Callao, the artists area

    On our last morning in Lima, we organized a guided tour in some of the most interesting areas of the city. We started with a short walk through Callao, once a sea port degraded area and now an artistic area with art exhibitions and wall paintings. This part of the city is now populated by elegant houses and nice stores. We visited Casa Ronald, originally built by an Italian family as a hotel, and then abandoned and requalified as an art gallery and exhibition area.Weiterlesen

  • Dominican monastery

    Our second stop of the Lima tour was the Dominican monastery in the old city center. The inner chiostre is amazing, decorated by ancient colorful tiles made by rich Spanish families and imported directly from Spain during the colonial period. The old library is also fascinating as well as the inner garden. The whole building exemplifies the effort of catholic Spanish to impose their religion by re-creating in the new world amazing pieces of art.Weiterlesen

    The main square of the old city center is a huge space surrounded by all the main buildings of the city, the governor house, the main church and the house of Pizarro. The square was created by Pizarro himself when I created the city and chose it as the main center for the new colony.Weiterlesen

  • Lima cathedral

    Overlooking the square, you will find the cathedral of Lima. The main structure of this large church is completely made of wood and bambu making it flexible and more resistant to the frequent earthquakes. In the inside one can find the chapel celebrating Pizarro the now hosts also his remains. The decorations and pieces of art inside are a fascinating example of how local elements got incorporated in traditional catholic symbols. Images such as the mountain-bike holy Mary are a great example of that.Weiterlesen

  • Casa de Aliaga

    Near the Town hall, once home of Pizarro, we visited the house museum of his best general Jeronimo de Aliaga. Part of the building is still inhabited today by members of the Aliaga family while other areas are open for visit. The inside is amazing and full of history including the declaration of Perù independence, a beautiful inner garden and the private family chapel.Weiterlesen
