Arrifana to Carrapateira, 24 km

Heerlijk geslapen en het hostel serveerde ons een fantastisch ontbijt waar we zelfs nog wat van konden meenemen als lunch pakketje.

Het lijkt erop dat een bepaald architecturenburo hier actief is. Fantastisch bungalows zien we langs ons wandelpad.

Vandaag weer ruime paden, wel wat op en neer maar het voelt anders dan gisteren. Tijdens onze pauze kruipt een poes op schoot van Debi. Debi heeft zelf meerdere huis-poezen gehad dus het was voor haar een fijne verwelkoming.

De reisgids stuurt ons langs het "historische pad" ( meer in het binnenland) terwijl er ook nog een Fishermen's trail is die daar soms mee overlapt of parallel mee loopt.
Halverwege besluiten we de Fishermen's trail bordjes weer te volgen wat ons een mooier uitzicht geeft op de oceaan. Een goede keus ondanks het mulle zand. Want het uitzicht is een stuk interessanter. Hoewel het twee uur voor de verwachtte aankomst begint te regenen, vinden we allebei dat regen met uitzicht op de oceaan beter is dan regen in een eucalyptus bos of tussen weilanden. Die laatste foto blijft natuurlijk een mooi plaatje...

We zullen daar de komende dagen extra attent op zijn, want onze reisgids blijft ons maar het binnenland insturen.

We began the day with a lovely breakfast delivered to our room, with enough food to take for lunch. Today was a really lovely walk, again staying as close to the coast as possible. Th Cicerone Guide emphasizes sections of the inland Historical Way instead of the Fisherman's Trail, which is puzzling. Both options should be fully described, so the guide is not as helpful as hoped. The guide described the FT today as a long up and down slog, but we found that, other than a very steep climb when leaving the village (which we managed easily) we had gentle hills taking us a bit inland and then back to the wonderful sea, where we watched surfers from the beaches. The 24 km day passed very quickly, with light misty rain for the final 1 1/2 hours.

We had considered taking a rest day in Carrapateira, but it wasn't very interesting to we decided to move on the next morning. However, we did have a fab dinner (best yet!) at a small cafe - Micro Bistro Bar - with an international menu and staff. Nice that they could prepare such a range of food, and so well (veg curry for me).

The hostel that we stayed at - Da Dunes - is a funky old place, although we didn't hang out in the cozy common rooms, where there appeared to be a number of solo women travellers. The hostel had lots of tropical plants, pottery and mosaic tiles, and the private room was very tiny and worn, but colourful.Read more
