Garrucha to Cuevas de Almanzora

Today was a not so interesting day. It was all on tarmac or sidewalk, mainly through agricultural land (with lots of plastic and other litter), or along a huge canal. We had expected to walk beside a winding river! The canal had no water in it. We did see cars driving through it from one side to the other. To make that possible special openings are made in the sides of the canal.

And of course (we missed them already) two dogs in FRONT of a gate instead of behind them, viciously barking and coming at us. We tried to find some stones to throw at them but there were not any! We did as if and the dogs cowardly stopped but when we raised ourself, they came at us again. While slowly walking on and keeping an eye on them, a car driver helped us, he positioned his car between us and the dogs and honked his horn, that gave us time to make some distance. So all ends well.

We walked through Vera village halfway the day, where they still had a bull ring with a matador statue in front of it. It was warm today, 22 degrees. The wind picked up again in the afternoon and was stronger than yesterday. Because we changed direction the wind was now in our face where up till now the wind was in our back. And that makes a difference i must confess…

I didn’t make much pictures during the walk, not much to be seen. Most of the pictures i made today are from the roof of the place we stayed, which is apparently a former palace that is 200 years old and has a lot of interesting details. The views from the rooftop were magnificent.

We started at 8.30 sharp this morning and at 15.30 we arrived in Cuevas del Almanzora. It is nice to have some time to relax and wash some clothes. We departed from the coast and are now going inland.

Accomodation:
El Palacete, beautiful old building, 50 euro for a room for two. Although we did like the matrasses of Hostal Manolo more!

Vandaag was geen erg interessante dag. We liepen voornamelijk over asfalt of de stoep en door landbouwgrond (met veel plastic en ander afval) of langs een enorm kanaal. We hadden verwacht langs een kronkelende rivier te lopen! Het kanaal stond droog. We zagen auto's erdoorheen rijden, van de ene kant naar de andere. Daarvoor zijn speciale openingen in de zijkanten van het kanaal gemaakt.

En natuurlijk (we hadden ze al gemist) twee honden vóór een hek in plaats van erachter, die woest blaffend op ons afkwamen. We probeerden stenen te vinden om naar ze te gooien, maar die waren er niet! We deden alsof en de honden stopten lafhartig, maar toen we ons oprichtten, kwamen ze weer op ons af. Terwijl we langzaam verder liepen en ze in de gaten hielden, schoot een automobilist ons te hulp. Hij positioneerde zijn auto tussen ons en de honden en toeterde, waardoor we wat afstand konden nemen. Dus alles is goed afgelopen.

Halverwege de dag liepen we door het dorp Vera, waar nog steeds een stierenarena stond met een standbeeld van een matador ervoor. Het was warm, 22 graden. De wind stak 's middags weer op en was sterker dan gisteren. Doordat we van richting veranderden, stond de wind nu in ons gezicht, terwijl we hem tot nu toe in onze rug hadden. En dat maakt wel verschil, moet ik bekennen…

Ik heb niet veel foto's gemaakt tijdens de wandeling, er was niet veel te zien. De meeste foto's die ik vandaag heb genomen, zijn vanaf het dak van de accommodatie waar we verbleven. Het is blijkbaar een voormalig paleis van 200 jaar oud met veel interessante details. Het uitzicht vanaf het dak was fantastisch.

We vertrokken stipt om 8.30 uur vanmorgen en kwamen om 15.30 uur aan in Cuevas del Almanzora. Het is fijn om even te kunnen ontspannen en wat kleren te wassen. We zijn vertrokken van de kust en gaan nu landinwaarts.
